What’s the groups opinion on the best 1:72 scale SBD Dautless that is readily available?
By best, I am mainly concerned with fit, multi-piece canopy, recessed panel lines and quality of decals.
Thanks,
Jim

The only ones I know of are the Airfix and Testors kits. Unfortunately for your needs, the Airfix is old Airfix, as their newer 1/72 stuff has been getting quite favorable reviews.
No such beast.
The Testor’s kit is very poor on detail.
Airfix’s Dauntless has the right shape, but you’ll need to work to bring it up to par with a modern kit.
Hasegawa released a 72nd Dauntless about 15-20 years ago. It’s typical Hasegawa in that it has crisp looking parts, but it too is short on detail. The interior is simplified and does not include parts for an open cockpit. You’ll also need to drill out all the dive break holes.
We really could use a new tool SBD in 72nd.
Wouldnt the Hasegawa kit be better or in fact much less work ? Of course it’s probably pricy and needs help in the cockpit. But the airfix kit needs help everywhere compared to more modern models that is, for its time it was great

Well heck…Thanks for the replies. Maybe the future will bring one less 109 and a new Dauntless. One can dream
I wouldn’t be overly shocked if Cyberhobby makes one soon. They did release very nice SB2C and Val dive bombers in 72nd.
Pricey kits, but worth the price of admission.
