Belly tanks for F6F

hi guys, I’m building the Hasegawa 1/72 Hellcat, anyone know if I can get a replacement belly tank in that scale ?

further to my request above anyone know of a web site with photos or drawings of these tanks attached showing their attachment points and bracing ?

Can’t help you with the part, but here are some pics.

That plane looks so sad out there in Arizona, or New Mexico, or whaever dry state it’s in. Wonder if it’s flyable, the way they leave it out in the elements. Now I’m just throwing this in the air, but if you want to spend a little money now, you could go to micromark.com and buy their resin casting starter kit. Then you could carve a belly tank, cast it, and have an infinate number of tanks for your pleasure. Or zip over to this forum and make a request… http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/ Good luck!

I could also apply to join NASA’s space program ! LOL, seriously RadMax8 I am not that talented. thank you to all for the reply’s and help.

I always thought the F6F tank always looked so precarious, being attached at the rear, with all that heavy gas in it, and just two little sway braces at the front. It seams as though there’s nothing holding it on very well. But then, I’ve always been amazed that a jet with full tanks on the tips or under the wings can sustain five or six G’s without ripping off. If I remember my ground school correctly, that avgas weighs about seven pounds per gallon. So even a 50 gallon belly tanks on a WW II a/c weighs 350 lbs. full. I’m sure they were G-limited, but still…

The F6F tank is attached at the rear, but there is a pair of cables or straps that go around the bottom of the tank at about the midpoint that attach to the fuselage to support the forward end, in addition to the sway braces.
