Anybody got a set of Memphis Belle nose art decals in 1/48 scale that they’d be willing to sell me?
If anyone’s interested, I got a tour of the Belle last month. She’s in pieces in a hanger at the old Naval Air Station outside Memphis. It was quite an experience. The guide said she’s like a time capsule because there’s been virtually no restoration done since she was parked. They found projectiles inside one of the fuel tanks, and flak fragments buried in airframe memers - stuff like that. They are doing a full blue-print job on the engines, and that room was a marvel, in itself! I’ve got some digital photos I’d be happy to post here if anyone is interested. It was so impressive that even my jaded, cynical, know-it-all teenaged daughters were thoughtful and quiet!
Col. Robert Morgan, pilot of the Belle passed last year. He never got to see the Belle restored to her full glory. Memphis really dropped the ball with her. I think she is heading back to WPAF museum, or so says the rumor I heard.

The Memphis Belle Preservation group is doing their best to keep her in Memphis. The transfer to WPAFB is not a done deal! I agree that the city of Memphis has screwed it up royally, but there are some pretty decent folks involved in the preservation effort who want to keep her there. They are planning a beautiful preservation building and museum for her. Personally, I’d like to see her stay there, but only if she’s taken care of right.
I have the decals for the revell kit, they’ve been sitting in a photo album for about ten years, the kit has since disappeared during the years I left model building, if you haven’t got ahold of them aready give me a shout.
The Memphis Belle decals are part of the new Zotz b-17 decal release. They are available. I would love to see the pics of the belle if you could post them.
I’d love to be able to justify that Zotz set! It looks gorgeous. The problem is that my collection is in 72nd scale, and I’d rather not spend that much for the set when all I need is The Belles. They aren’t for a model, anyway. I’m putting together a set of memorabilia displays for my 2 best friends.
re: the photos of the Belle: if I email them one of y’all, could you see about posting them here? As much of a computer bonehead as I am, that would probably be the easiest way to get them up.
