Im just wondering if there are any good substitute paints that would be almost the same, or could replicate dark, and light earth. Any ideas?
Welcome to the forum Ace.
Just about any model paint manufacturer will have a range of colours that will suit. Just check out your LHS.
Any particular type of paint (enamel or Acryllic) or special reason for a substitute paint?
One idea is to look at Woodland Scenics (model railroading stuff) paints. They have real thin acrylics that are used to paint plaster scenery. They have a range of colors that will give you quite a variety. And, ounce per ounce, are way cheeper than any of the model paints.
Thx for the help, but Im mostly looking for something like for example, that dark grey, could be used as sort of a subsitute for black.
I’m not sure whether or not I fully understand the question, but you’re asking if there are paints that replicate the colour of earth? There are litteraly dozens. As petbat said, go to your LHS and check it out. Earth, in real life, is not a uniform finish, and varies greatly from one spot to the next. As such, there is no ONE paint that can replicate earth, but many different kinds of paints that replicate various differing shades of earth, ie differing shades of brown. What you want to do is put down one basecoat, then a series of washes and drybrushes with varying shades. This will give you a much more convincing result
Welcome!! If you don’t mind acrylics, try using the paints that are used in hobbies like ceramics and woodsies. It can be as cheap as 44 cents for a couple ounces. Common brands in the US are Delta Ceramicoat, Plaid, and Folkart. Most countries have something like it. It is cheap, easily thinned, and has a nice varity. I use it for landscaping most of the time.
[:D] wellcome to the forum, humbrol has a large color selction, i use them all the time.

Thank you for the warm welcome [:)]
Bascially, what color paint is pretty close to this color.
I’m still using Pactra light and dark earth for my vehicles needing some earth colored mud on the suspensions. I’ve had these large bottles of paint for years, but Pactra isn’t in business any more that I’m aware of; as has been said above, there are many colors available from the current manufacturers.
Welcome to FSM Ace.
The colour that you show is close to many that are on the market. It depends what is available in your area.
But something you didn’t mention is what you intend on doing with the paint. Is it to make your kits look dirty ???
If you could share a little more info, we may be better able to help you out with some suggestions.
You might also mix your own colors like an artist does on a palette. Red and green used in the right ratio can make anything from olive to brown. Add black or white to create shades and tints. No one says you have to use stock colors. Just be sure to mix enamels with enamels and latex with latex because we all Know water and oil won’t mix. Give it a try, experiment.
Welcome Ace. Is it in a can that you can’t see the real color and you want to match it in a bottle?
Subfixer has some good ideas, if you can’t find what your looking for.
No its just that Its not in my LHS, and im just looking for a close substitute. And yes it is to dirty up the model, green t3 in specific.
