Beginner model

My son wants to build a tank. He’s done
a couple small planes and would like
to try a tank. Any suggestions?

I’d suggest Revell-Germany’s 1/72 Pz IV. With a bit of your supervision in the track fitting stage, your son will easily build it over a week end. It’s a lovely kit, and rather inexpensive! And an exciting subject too!

i started out on airplanes and built my first tank, the m60a2 from tamiya pretty good. i would suggest cheaper kits from tamiya so if he messes up its only like 10$. anyhoo i would get the tamiya t34-76 its a discontinued kit though[:(][:(]. ok… get the dragon t34-76.[^]

the tamiya M1a1 is a pretty straight forward kit

Thanks. I pretty much build 1/48 aircraft. Last tank
I did was a Mongram Lee back in 1980.

I would suggest Italeri kits to start with. Their quality is about B+ and They are resaonably priced. The german leopard or the american m-109 are easy. Second I would suggest most tamiya kits however they are a little more expensive. My first armor kit was a 1/35 scale heller gepard anti aircraft kit. I loved building it but the quality is not the best .I would like to add that I have not built a plane since then and that was 10 years ago…have fun…

At some of the discount sites you can pick up a Tamiya m-41 walker Bulldog for around $10-$12. eASY KIT TO BUILD AND PAINT. lOOKS GREAT RIGHT OUT OF BOX, BUY A CAN OF od SPRAY PAINT ANDHE’LL HAVE A REAL NICE SHOWPIECE

See if you can pick up one of the older Tamiya kits like their Stuarts. They are still fairly reasonable in price and go together very well. A nice easy build for the first time out.

Another good kit to build is the Tamiya Panzer II kit. My nine year old daughter just built one and did a great job on it.

My husband just completed his first model ever. It was a tank-Revell’s “Panther”. it was inexpensive (under $10). He finished it in a day and had fun painting it as displayed on the box. It’s a level 3 but it sounds like your son will have no problems since he has some experience already.
