Does anyone happen to have a spare domed clear part that goes on top of the nose on a R/M 1/48 B-17G? I’ll go buy another kit if I have to, but I figured I would beg here first. I would really, really appreciate it.
My mask came up while I was painting and it got a little overspray on it. I tried cleaning it off and it went WAY downhill from there. Before I was done, it was a cloudy, sticky, gooey mess. I was able to pop it out and I’m pretty sure I can get another one in there with no problem. Isn’t modelling fun.
I should have a couple of them in my stash. Is it the round dome in the nose of the plane. I will check my stash tonight when I get home and let you know. if you have a digital camera snap a pic. I believe I have all of the glass for the B17 G somewhere.
Been there done that! In my case, I had installed the astral dome (I think that’s what it was called - the navigator used it for getting fixes off stars, the sun, etc) and I poked it in while working on the model. Had to rip the nose greenhouse off to get at it. Anyway, if all else fails, you might be able to salvage it by wet-sanding out the worst parts, then gradually smoothing the finish down by using polishing compound, toothpaste, etc. Once you get it reasonably smooth, give it the ol’ Future treatment.
I stripped down the paint that I had painted on my mustang’s windscreen(and thats been on it for 3 years…lol) It was cloudy and all…but I cleaned the paint off as good as I could get it then dipped it into future…it was good as new!
Try the Squadron’s B-17 Glass sets, they are clearer and you’d be able to see those great details you’ve painted easier, and they cost under $10.00 for both sets
