been in the pits!!(photos)

hey guys, its been raining here for the last couple of days so i cant work (bummer!![:p]) and i’m bored so i thought i’d share some progress pics i’ve snapped over the last couple weeks. too bad that i’ve boxed up 2 of these projects out of frustration but i’m on the decaling of the other 2. i have some touching up and seem filling to do in some of these photos so just bare with me.

this is the aires cockpit set for the tamiya P-51D. i love that instrument panel!! this is my first time dealing with photo ectch parts and film, but i’m sold as far as instrument panels go!! the resin panels just dont get it when you see one from photo etch and film. the seat belts are phote ectch too. the aires pit is my favorite, but the only thing i didnt care too much for was the instument panel was cast in the with the gun sight and dash board. you have to cut out the dash board on the kit and glue all this in place and it was a bear of a fit!! plus, the aires cockpit was damaged as part of the dashboard was broken off and i didnt realize it. so, i had to leave some of the kit dash board intact to try and make it look halfway decent. [V]

this is the blackbox cockpit set for the tamiya P-51D. i’m not too crazy about this one at all. the cockpit side walls end at the seat. i had sanded all the detail off before i realized this.[V] i’m decaling this bird today.

this is another blackbox cockpit set that actually came in the box with the kit.[tup] i think it has some cool detail to it. too bad the kit fit is terrible. the kit is the AMtech Hs-123A-1, an early war german dive bomber. it a cool looking little kit though. i’m almost finished with it now.

This is yet another blackbox cockpit set for the monogram A-37 dragonfly. this is a really cool cockpit set and i boxed it up for now because i realized that i have too much going on to be hurrying through this one.

thanks for letting me share. all the above is in 1/48 scale. later.

chris. they look fabulous. you have a real talent with the pits. great work. thankyou for sharing.

Fine job Saltydog! I love the rain,I wish we’d get more of it here in Southern California! Still, I understand your frustration with not working.

Your cockpits are looking excellent! I feel I can almost just sit down inside tese and fire them up! You are correct on the detail: Fantastic!

Chris, very nice work on the offices. Glad to see you got over your funk and are back in the saddle [:)].

Chris, nice work, they look great welcome back from the dark side. I can only hope my pits turn out that good.

Thad

Very very nice keep up the good work

It’s looking great Chris, thanks for the update.

Mate next time call it cockpit…Pits are globally translated as F1 racing garages…lol

Looking really great Chris! Don’t get depressed over setbacks, do the best job you can with what you have and before you know it, you’ll love the kit again. You’re a better modeler than I am, and I think I’ve been at it a year or so longer than you. Keep up the good work my friend.

Chris,

I agree with everyone else. Your cockpits look great. [:D] [;)]

Mike

Great Job on the pits!
Very well finished indeed.

Yo Dog - You slammed those cockpits ! The Hulkster lives !

hey thanks fellows!! you guys really know how to keep a fellow modeller motivated!! keep in mind though, i did these cockpits over the last month to 6 weeks so they were done before my frustrations started. but i really appreciate your kind words guys. later.

Dude!!! youre letting seams and stuff like that get to ya when you make offices like that!!! those are awesome. Excellent touch. Even Technique and more patience then you knew you had. Great stuff man. Now do the rest [;)]

You’ve got some great looking cockpits there.

thanks jeff and adam. your kind works motivate me further to get up off it and finish somethin’!! you have a cool looking dog there adam!![tup] later.

Been dealing with these fiddly bits since the old ill-fitting Trimaster FW-190 Dora Nine(at 50 1987 dollars!), same year I bought my first Verlinden aftermarket – an F-15A cockpit. I was stomping around the jungles of Honduras looking for the contras for UPI with this thing in my pack and all I could think about was getting back home to put it in my Hasegawa Eagle, which (at 50 1987 dollars!) came with stainless steel turkey feathers AND cast metal wheels and struts. To the point, I still can’t do it as well as these you’ve shown us.
