Beechcraft D-18 / C-45 kit.

Hey guy’s,

Does anyone know if their are any decent 1:32 kits for this aircraft? I am looking for 2 of them, one to build and one for reference for my scratch build 1:5 scale.

Thanks

Bill

Nope. There are no good plastic Beech 18 kits in any scale. Hard to believe. Look into the Ziroli plans for something near 1/5.

jeaton01,

I already have the plans from Ziroli and I have already started to shape the fuselage out of foam. I am needing the kit for detail reference (panel lines, rivets, and interior) and one to build as a shelf model.

I’d like to know were this came from and here is mine.

MACH models has a 1/48th scale model of the Beach 18/UC -45, but I have never seen it let alone scale it out for accuracy, and it is expensive ($85 to $95). Look on the web for a service manual for the Beech 18. You may find one cheaper than the aforementioned kit and they typically have all the panel line and rivet detail you would want. I got scale plans for a Lockheed 10 Electra from Cleveland Models in 1/32 scale and 1/8 scale, and a set of shop manuals for $110. The smaller of the two is for display and the 1/8 scale model will fly R/C. I’m building with plyewood and balsa (old school). Are you going to fiberglass the foam? Are you going with gas power, or electric? My current challenge is the scale wormgear landing gear retract mechanism and the flap accuating mechanism. I have a few hours in the right seat of a Beach 18 and it is a great old airplane.

rangerj,

I gave up power a long time ago, … these beast are RC PSS’ers (power slope soaring) and we have a static and flight contest every year. On the even years, it’s held in Utah, and odd years it’s in California at the Cajon Pass, that’s the one I go to considering I live 8 miles away from it.

The Beech is for the 2013 AMA IMS show (International Modeling Show) in Onterio calif. and the fest of the same year. Yes I will be fiber-glassing the fuselage and the wing will be cut on a CNC hot-wire, … the same as my Dauntless that I am entering this year with.

In case you havent seen my posting of the plane on this site, … as a fellow RC guy, … you will want to see it, … /forums/t/137989.aspx

If you want to see 2.5 year long build thread on it, … have a look here. A BAZILLION pictures of the progress during the build over on RC Groups.

The Mach II kit is the same as the Battle Axe 1/48 kit. I haven’t ever had one but the reviews I have seen are not so hot.

It is the only choice in 1/48.

Grainger did some 3 views that have some errors, such as getting the out-thrust of the engines wrong, but they are pretty good. Paul Matt did some very nice drawings that have all the panel line detail you will ever need. He annotates the out-thrust at 4 degrees, but drew it at 2 degrees, and that agrees with some Beech 3 views I have of an E-18S.
