Beachcraft Staggerwing

At a recent garage sale I picked up an AMT Staggerwing for a buck.Kit is complete, but has very scruffy decal sheet.Question: Does anyone know where I may find one? ie:aftermarket.

That’s an ancient kit & I doubt you’ll find any AM decals specifically for the kit, although I didn’t do a search. I think your best bet is to get an AM sheet for another aircraft from the period & use the Generic markings if nothing else.

Regards, Rick

Do it in military markings, that way you have plenty of stuff to choose from.

That is a kit I’ve been looking for for awhile now. Found one on e-bay but it went out of my price range. Well at least I can hope it’ll be rereleased one of these days. Verlinden and some of the other decal manufacturers offer a generic civilian sheet or they used to at least.

You could mask and paint the main parts of the aircraft, including the stripes. the decals for the company logo, ie “BEECHCRAFT”, can be obtained from the 1/48th scale Beechcraft Bonanza V-35 that is still available in several different brand named boxes Arii for one.

Then the aircraft numbers and letters can be obtained on decal sheets in various sizes and fonts. Pick the ones that serve your purpose. You can also get decal sheets in clear and solid colors. The clear sheet can be painted with the stripes of any color you chose, or the solid color sheet can be cut into stripes to use on the Stagger Wing. rangerj

STICKMAN,

I’ve got the same kit in my inventory. Like Swanny’s suggestion, I have planned to do an OD and Neutral Gray USAAF version of it.

So…, that being said I still have the decals from the original kit. The decals aren’t that great to begin with, but the ones that came with my kit are in pretty good shape considering their age and that the kit was sealed until just now (to check the condition of the decals). The decal paper has yellowed a bit, but, afterall, it is a yellow plane if you plan to do it OOB. Looks like you gotta cut these decals real tight too.

Interested? Send me an email if so.

I forgot all about the military version, that may be the way to go.Thanks guys for all the help.[][:)]

My apologies, but I guess that I’ve been a pilot and mechanic too long, but to me a Staggerwing in any thing but Gloss Red or Yellow is almost sacriligious. I know, I know, OD or Navy blues are accurate but none of them are as pretty as a civilian paint scheme (BTW, how many restored military Staggerwings have you seen out there?). That’s almost like painting a 427 Shelby Cobra flat OD w/flat Black racing stripes and Green canvas seats. LOL

I purchased a rerelease from an estate sale. I still have’nt decided whether to go civil or military yet. I can remember when there atleast four staggerwings at an airport here in Fresno. As with so many other things in life, there just are’nt that many older aircraft around here anymore. Even if there were, thanks to those cretins from9/11, we can’nt go out to look at them anymore.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, my friend. I’ll take an OD/Neutral Gray, NMF, or Sea Blue/Intermediate Blue/White paint job on a plane, train, or automobile anyday!

STICKMAN - Here’s a pick of an OD Staggerwing for ya.

The summer morning sun is breaking through the fog… the smell of coffee mingles with the exhaust fumes of the “195” that just shut down in front of you… several aircraft have already taken their place along the Flight line as a steady stream of Fly-In enthusiast now make their way onto the tarmac… the unmistakable rumble of Pratt & Whitney is heard in the distance… everyone turns their head… “Asheboro unicom, Beech eight zero three zero five, downwind two seven”, blares over the 1940’s dance tunes on the speakers…

Yeah, it’s going to be a beautiful day! [:)]

Take care,
Frank

It sure is a lovely bird .I did see two bright red ones at a small local air show a number of years ago, another reason I snapped the kit up. Kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place I guess.
