Battleship Bismarck finally complete!

Hi guys and gals,

Well, first up I would like to say thanks for taking the time to look at my build, and thanks for all the helpful tips I have gained from you, much appreciated [:D]

Back in 2010 I purchased my Tamiya 1/350 Bismarck, and as of yesterday I can finally say I have finished! It was built off and on during this period, due to other commitments and the need to take a break from the ship and change it up with another smaller model here and there. This is my first real ship model I have ever built and I must say, I definitely did not expect it to be as big a project as it turned out to be. To all you ship builders, I take my hat off to you!

I initially was going to build it out of box but soon realized that the Tamiya kit was lacking in detail a fair bit, (something I should have maybe looked into before buying) so I decided to add a few after market options here and there then suddenly I had a whole array of things to add to the ship!

Photo etch was used from Gold Medal Models and White Ensign Models. One thing is for sure, making some of those AA weapons was VERY fiddly and time consuming! I also found painting to be a challenge. I used both Tamiya and LifeColor paints.

If you have any critique, comments or question please don’t hesitate to discuss [:)]

Well without any further delay, here is my Pride and Joy and the result of many many hours of model making…My Battleship BISMARCK!

Beautiful!

Nice,clean build.Well done.

WOW, nice work! Your bending on the railings looks smooth as silk!

MiG-29, that is one beautiful schlachtschiff! Glad you enjoyed the build, and thanks for posting so we could, too.

That is a gorgeous model ship, and huge!

Is the deck painted or an AM wood product?

regards,

Jack

my question too. if it’s painted i want a class on how to do it.,

Even if its wood I would like that class. I am not a fan of wood decks, but you hit it square on with the way it’s stained. The model looks like the real thing. Incredible job.

Thanks for all the support guys! I did use MK1’s wood deck for the ship, and stained/washed it slightly to add some variation to the tone then sealed it. It was a bit nerve racking trying to get every bit to line up properly, especially the large fore and aft sheets. The swastika banners were painted white, then masked up and sprayed the red over it to create the circle. The swastikas are 1/32 aircraft decals. In the end, I am happy with the results!

Lovely clean build. Talented work. Jockster.

You have taken an old kit and turned it into a work of art! Beautiful!

Bill

Stunning. Just a beautifully built and painted ship.

Just beautiful.

Excellent combination of clean building quality painting and effective scale rigging…

We are proud for you…Thats one nice job mate!

[:D[ awesome.

Thank you for the kind words. Makes it all very much worth it =]

Hope I can do half as good a job when I take mine from the stash! Do you have any pictures from the build to help the rest of us?

Phil

Phil,

I do have some photos of the build process but unfortunately I haven’t taken many. When I get home I can upload a few. If you have any questions i would be glad to help.

[Y] She is truly a beauty!

Outstanding build! You should be very proud of it.

I have the Acadamy version and I hope when I get around to it I can do at least half that good!
