The “…really big shoe” in my best Ed Sullivan voice is tomorrow. i was going for the light snow look… you know when it is not enough to completely cover the grass. 1st time using snow so what do you think? As is OR cover it with a good layer of snow OR just put the model on the table and keep practicing the snow technique for next year?
I think it looks just right. A figure or two would make it look really nice.
For scale, it looks perfect–but I agree with the pretty lady; it needs a little visual interest on the side—some bushes or figures? Maybe something discarded on the side of the “road”?!
Thnaks guys. I was going for an run across the Russian steppes…where there bushes? Maybe a couple of infantry running along side.
Snow coverage like everything else–it depends. If you were going for an initial snowfall of “dusting”—you nailed it…If you wanted to depict a heavy snow that occured late in the winter then you might should add deeper snow and make the ground appear to be frozen and harder (not much in the way of tank tracks)…as far as visual interest, adding an abandoned Soviet AT gun would be really cool as well if there is one in 72nd…good stuff…
The front right corner needs something there to take up the space, perhaps a broken-down wood fence, a bit of brush, whatever… A couple of Infantry would look good too, perhaps the Tamiya figures from the BMW motorcycle set, since they’re wearing greatcoats… It’s still out there and pretty cheap…
As for the snow, I like it the way it is… It looks like a typical late fall/early winter day where the weather has turned a bit gloomy, Temps are still warm enough to be muddy during the day and frozen at night (what the Army calls a "Wet Cold Environment), a harbringer of things to come for the Germans when they finally meet the two greatest weapons in Ivan;s arsenal, “General Winter” and “Marshall Mud”…
Hammer, I believe that dio is 72nd scale…
To my eye it looks like you accomplished what you were trying to accomplish with the snow, looks just right my friend!
I agree with the others, the snow looks great, just fill the empty spaces and it will be perfect.
scratchmod
That was my idea here–
The light snowfall effect looks good Marc. Agree with the others that the rest looks a bit empty though…some good ideas floated, not sure what you can add to it in the time available to you but something else to had a little more visual to it would help. [tup]
I like the way the coverage looks Marc, really good for an initial dusting!
Marc,
You have captured a windswept snowy semi-arid steppe perfectly. I was raised in North Dakota and your Dio made me home sick! I like how lonely and alone your tank looks.
Just my [2c] and here is som more change as well [2c]
Good luck in your show!
Ahh, too bad…
(Cue Emily Latella)
“Never mind…”
Brrrrrrr…looks good but cold…I like Manny’s idea of an out of action AT gun or at least some ground pounders FTAO along side.
Rounds Complete!!
Marc it looks great. As for filling up the base… All I can think of is try a smaller base, the vehicle and snow are great.
I have to keep telling myself that its 1/72 not 1/35 so the accessory options are probably not as diverse. If it was 1/35 then that base would be huge.
Maybe the edge of a building.
Again looks great,
Terry.
