Banshee question

Does anyone know of a cockpit kit for the Banshee, or one that could be adapted to the Momogram 1/48 kit? It’s the only 1/48 Banshee model that I am aware of, and it’s pretty rudimentary…TIA!

I remember Hawk putting out a 1/48 Banshee in the late 50’s, but I don’t think Monogram ever put one out. I don’t think there were 20 parts to it. I think I still have one in my stash unless I gave it to one of my buddies. I have an old Hawk F-84 also.

Mel,

Thanks for the info, and my bad - it is a Testor’s kit that I have, guess I got Monogram on the brain!

That is a really old & very basic kit. I’m not sure, but I would guess some of the Monogram F9F interior parts could be used or adapted. Might be easier & cheaper to scratch build the cockpit. There was a rumour of a new 1/48 Banshee kit on the way, but I don’t recall who was supposedly releasing it.

Regards, Rick

For my Banshee I used the cockpit and seat from a F-80. It just takes a little trimming of the side walls to get it to fit. You will have to scratchbuild the wheel wells though.

Does know the answer to this? It was either the F2H Banshee or the FH Phantom I that did not have an ejection seat. One of those two very early carrier-borne jets, though, had no bang seat. Which was it? It’s not a quiz. I really don’t remember, and can’t seem to find it on the web. I would guess it was the first jet that carried the Phantom name, since it has the earlier designation, but back then the number sequence didn’t necessarily mean it went into production sooner, what with all the engine development troubles and such with the early carrier jets.

If you want to drop some heavy bucks, you could look at the collectaire banshee.

The FH Phantom did not have an ejection seat. The F2H did.

The cockpit in the 1/48 Hawk/Testor’s kit is the least of your worries. The kit is based on an early prototype and the canopy is too small even for that particular aircraft.

Bud, I KNOW you weren’t directing that reply to me. Collectaire? I can’t even BUY lottery tickets, so how am I going to win it?
TOM

noooooo…Tom. Wouldn’t even think of it - to tease you in such a manner would just be plane wrong (but not beneath me in the right circumstances)

Was putting it there for anyone who was interested in a slightly better (but MUCH more expensive kit of the banshee) - :0)

Guys,

Thanks for all the great advice! It’s great to have such a treasure trove of info! Thanks especially to Swanny for the OUTSTANDING website and tips for us novices!
