Band of Brothers Flak 88

I recently aquired Tamiya’s 1/35 Flak 88 36/37 and have decided to make a band of brothers diorama out of it. I’m going to be recreating the scene where Lt. Speirs runs clear across the town of foy to hook up with another company. He runs right by a Flak crew and infantry who are so stunned they dont shoot. I have some questions for you guys that I hope you can answer.

1.What was the camoflauge paint colors during this battle? It is during/around the Battle of the Bulge. I can’t tell from the movie if it’s white and green winter camo on grey or on yellow.

2.Can anyone give me links to pics of a real Flak 88 for reference, I’m having trouble finding them.

If you give any thanks for the help.

There are also quite a few books that will help you out, but unless you are looking to specialize your library, these can be pricey.

An internet search of 88mmflak or 8.8 cm flak etc. will give you plenty of resources. You’ll just have to take the time to wade through all of them to find the reference sites, from gaming sites, and other internet drivel.

Most likely this late, you’d have the base coat of yellow with a white wash. Give the equipment in a tv sereis some lattitude, since it may have been collector owned. Much easier for a bunch of grips to clean off some whitewash before giving it back to its owner than to have an owner allow a production crew to paint his museum piece yellow and then white wash it. Camo was crew subjective and they did what ever worked. Using available whitewash materials and even mud to break up outlines. Photos shot during the Ardennes campaign show both bare ground and snow. If it is a war torn traffic area in a town, you’ll get a build up of mud, snow, slush, etc. So factor that in your “picture”. Using the BoB reference, snow covered ground with mud streets would make some great possibilities.

Have fun and remember to pop us a few pics

I just went to Google.com typed in Band Of Brothers Foy and clicked on images and theres a six minute clip in there and i got a look at the 88. It looks like Yellow green and maybe red
