Balance In The Force

Bandai 1/4 Grogu kit painted with acrylics and weathered with oils. Glass butterfly from Ali Express. Since this is an articulated kit, lots of gaps to fill with Apoxie Sculpt.

Nice work on Grogu! One of the better additions to the Star Wars universe by Disney.

I’d be really interested in how you fill your joints with Apoxie Sculpt. I love these Bandai Star Wars figure kits but their articulated joints ruin the figure for me.

It depends on the size of the gap. For smaller gaps, treat it like any other putty and apply to the area. Smooth with water or IPA. For larger gaps you may need to pre-fill with something to give it volume. For example, the gaps around Grogu’s arms were large due to the articulation point so I packed some crumpled-up aluminum foil first and secured it with CA. Then I applied Aves Apoxie Sculpt over it and sculpted it into shape.

Nice thing about Aves is you have at least an hour’s working time. Once it dries (I usually give it 24 hours) you can sand it smooth to feather it in.

For other articulation points I will position the joint and lock it into place with CA before covering with Aves.

Hope this helps!

That came out nice, i need to finish mine some day. I do not mind the articulation, that may be because i also collect and display star wars black series 6" figures.

Thanks Rob, that does help me a lot. I guess that it’s time to break out a Bandai figure kits.

This is a great, concise how-to tip for anyone filling articulated joints if figures. Thanks, Rob!
