Bad Aeromaster decals?

Has anyone else out there come across a bad set of Aero Master decals? I have used them in the past with excellent results, but the two sets I have been trying to use this past week have been nothing but disastrous.

The two sets I was using are 48-577A “Yanks in the RAF”, and 48-243A “RAF Spitfire & Hurricane Roundels (Early)”. Unfortunately, I didn’t try a test decal as I have never had problems with them in the past. Upon looking at them, they appear to have a very thick and splotchy clear coat on them. They wrinkled up excessively when applying, and dried with what appeared to be color runs in them. I used them over acrylics covered with Future, and applied Microset and Microsol to help them settle down.

After realizing that they were not going to straighten out, I used the masking tape removal technique and was able to get most of them off. The parts that wouldn’t were sanded off.

Has anyone else out there run into this problem? The decals were purchased new from my LHS two weeks ago so I don’t think age was the problem. They were not there on the shelf a month ago when I was there, but maybe they sat on a shelf somewhere else for a long time.

Guess I am just sharing my frustration and wondering if anyone else has run into this with their decals. It’s my first frustration with them. [banghead] [banghead] [banghead]

it soundslike you have had a bad printing batch there. I have not hadanyproblems with thier products in the past, nor heard of such a problem, especially with the inks running like you describe.

You may want to try using a decal liquid film solution over the remainder if you want to chance using them. Usually the Aeromaster products are top of the line.

David,

Sounds like your past experience is the same as mine. Not exactly sure what to do at this point, probably gonna have to scrap the plane and try again with the Tamiya decals.
