Back in the saddle...again...from NC

Here we go. To say that scale modeling has been a on and off again love affair for me would be too easy! I have stopped and started so many kits over the years that it became a running joke in the house.

I am in central NC and started building models when I was 7- over 40 years ago. My first kit was the Monogram 1/48 B-29 Superfortress that I built with my Dad. It took forever because he traveled a lot but I really enjoyed the time we got together and gluing plastic. I still have that finished kit. Well, my folks do. I think I made similar transitions to other people that have come and gone with the hobby; build-school-girls-college-build- new dad- dad- adoption-build- work and finally I have been able to carve out time to hop back in for good as the kids have gotten older and doing their own thing. I’ve been a reader of FSM since 1991 and to this day my favorite issue was the one that showed everyone’s Desert Storm Group Builds. Blew my mind seeing all of those awesome jets. I’ve been an off and on Forum member but my original username was deep sixxed when the platform transitioned…I think. I’ve made a few great friends here, some still here and some gone. Dealing with life I am sure.

Anyways, it’s just nice to be back. Slinging glue and paint and chatting about the hobby. I am going to join the local IPMS chapter so I can see what folks are doing in the hobby in person. I am quite excited about that and taking my oldest son, who has become a decent kit builder in his own right. I build mostly anything WW2 and post WW2 with a focus on US Navy aircraft.

Wishing the best to everyone here and you’ll find my comments here and there.

Welcome Back!

Many of us have similar stories of modeling as youths then ā€˜straying away’ only to come back in our adult years.

I’ve been a member of our local IPMS chapter for over 20 years and am always amazed at the talent and comradery everyone shares, even with non-military builders such as me!

Greetings from Upper East Tennessee. Really close to NC (have gotten lost a few times and ended in seeing a ā€œwelcome to North Carolinaā€ sign). I have found that this is a good place to hang out, learn stuff, and get motivated to try things.

Thanks! Very lucky to have a place to talk the hobby. I used to belong to ARC but I think it’s done. Love eastern TN- my best friend lives in Johnson City. Nothing like the old days before the I-26 Connector when we had the twisty two lane road to get over that way.
