Back Again After 50+ years

Greetings everyone!

I built models as a kid but eventually moved on to working on cars as a teenager. I recently retired and still have many years remaining to restore classic cars and trucks. But after 50 years of being away from model building, I am planning the next phase of life to start building again.

My first project will be revisiting a build of Revell’s 1/96 Saturn V. I built the first issue back in the early 70’s and I think it turned out pretty good. I had several builds of cars, trucks, aircraft, flying model rockets, etc., under my belt before this project.

I cannot remember what happened to it. I believe when I went into the Air Force I left a lot of my stuff in the basement and when my parents sold the house it all must have disappeared at that time. GGGRRR!

I also have a 1/12 Monogram 1969 Camaro 3-1 kit I have had since the mid 80’s. I briefly worked on that, super detailing it to match my real Camaro.

The Saturn has a lot of issues to correct to make it a more accurate representation of the actual operational vehicle. You will be hearing from me quite often as I figure out how far I want to take it.

Welcome Larry! Good to have you here.

Welcome Larry. So much good stuff available these days.

Hello and welcome to FSM

Welcome aboard, Larry!

I built that same Revell Saturn V back in the early '70s, and just like you, I have absolutely no idea what happened to it! I returned to modeling after more than 30 years away, and that Saturn V is one of the kits I’d love to revisit someday.

The Saturn V has a special meaning for me because my dad actually worked on the 1:1 scale version in Huntsville, Alabama, back in the '60s. So there’s a bit of family history attached to that particular model.

I’ll definitely be following your build. It’ll be fun seeing that old kit come together again, especially with the improvements you’re planning.

Glad to have you here!
