I just retired and have started modelling again to keep busy. liked FSM mag as a young modeller and like it even better now.
I am currently working on WWI 1/72nd scale aircraft and 1/700 US Ships. I was in the Navy and was stationed on a tanker so I am interested in those kinds of ships.
I am also trying to collect as many different paint charts as I can find since 30 yrs ago it was FS only and you mixed your own. So any help out there would be appreciated.
you will find loads of info and help here…you like myself and many other have left the hobby and come back…its great to see that the interest and love for the hobby never really leaves us!!! oh and lots o’ silliness and fun too,
welcome [snWcm] wow 30 years, the hobby has really changed, but you will learn a lot here, ask any question and post your work,it is a nice atmosphere here,no stuffiness at all

Remember, printing ink and monitor colours and the actual paint will NOT be indentical.
There is no substitute for real paint chips. My solution, every time you open a bottle, you brush or spray (or both if you can) the paint onto a 1inch square piece of white polystyrene for the truth of what is in the bottle. Keep the chips out of sunlight too
Hope you really enjoy the hobby again. I came back too after many years away and at first was discouraged and intimidated by the quality of workmanship displayed now. I eventually just had to put that aside and enjoy the hobby at my own level. I’ve really enjoyed it and am also amazed at how fast you pick up on new techniques
I build nearly exclusively Canadian military aircraft of the Cold War era with a few WWII kits as well.
Oh, a short timer! (We are all retired millionaires.) Welcome back to the madhouse. Feeding times are still irregular, but the natives remain friendly (well, MOSTLY friendly).
I agree. I was extremely intimidated by the quality but I finally realized that I can do this and I love the photo-etched accessories but after scratch building I sometimes feel I am cheating when I use the after market parts available. Especially when I went back to my Dad’s to visit and he still had some of my 30 year old models and I brought them back and use them as examples for my new work. I joined the local IPMS for the exchange because I finally figured out I can do this and I am now my own worst critic.
Thanks and no I did time on a tanker (AO Class). Since I loved the ocean so much it hard to figure how I managed to retire out here in the middle of the desert. hahaha
Here is a website I found that is free unless you wish to donate but it has a wealth of paint cross referencing information. www.paint4models.com/… Try that for starters.
Waltvl now that is amazing 30 years later myself it was 5 years later I think you deserve a round of applause [snWow]. Here’s a link that I have been using for color charts http://scalemodeldb.com/paint
