i’ve decided to start my 1/48 NMF B-29 this weekend,my question is on the flight controls, were they fabric covered and doped or were they all metal?
the project is going to take a long time using a LOT of bare metal foil, but it’s the challenge that i wanted to try, wish me luck and i’ll post a few progress shots along the way
All references I have indicate they were covered with “duraluminum” aircraft aluminum.
I know for a fact that they were fabric covered on the B-29 “KeeBird”.
As they had to be recovered ,as one of the steps to its ill-fated recovery from Greenland.
Some later production A/C may have had the metal control surfaces, but the earlier ones were fabric covered.
If I remember right, the Monogram kit has the fabric simulated in its mold of the control surfaces.
Leon.
The control surfaces were fabric covered and doped aluminum.
