B-25 & B-26 side pack guns

How often were the side pack guns on B-25’s and B-26’s used? I imagine they saw more use on B-25’s in the Pacific, but what about in Europe? How were they operated?

Well if my source is correct (the game pacific fighters) the B-25 had a reflector sight and the pilot shot the guns. I doubt they were used very often in europe as most bombing was done from high altitude.[2c] oh please correct me if i am wrong

Check out the B-25 cockpit photos. Several of them appear to have reflector and ring-style gunsights for the pilot. This would indicate to me that the pilot was the gunner, at least on the strafer models. I have seen photos of (I think H models) some B-25s where the co-pilot seat and column had been removed and radio equipment installed in its place.

On a semi-related note, were the gun-nosed strafer B-25s ever used to actually drop bombs? Did they retain the capability?

I’m pretty sure there are pictures and painting of Apache B-25’s bombing and strafing ships, just not sure how the bombs were dropped.

the B-25’s where used as ground attack platforms, they did both strafe and bomb (accually skip bomb (the bombs where released at a very low altitude and they skippped off the surface and acted more like a torpedo on impact)
