B-24J Liberator Interior detail

Hi,

I have just started building a Monogram B-24J Liberator in 1/48 and I want to detail the interior a bit more than is in the kit.

I cannot find anyone who makes detail interior parts for this kit apart from Flightpath, and that only adds limited interior detail.

I particularly want to add large and small oxygen cylinders and fire extinguishers (in resin ?) but I cannot find any manufacturers who do these in 1/48.

Does anyone know of anyone who does parts than can enhanse the interior of this great kit ?

Many Thanks

Ian

check your old issues of FSM. i remember somebody using medicine capsules for the O2 bottles. but i’m not sure how long ago it was.

Thanks William, that will give me something to think about.

I am just surprised that no resin manufacturer has not cast oxygen cylinders and fire extinguishers in 1/48 scale as most if not all bombers, Allied and Axis carried them.

If anyone has enhansed their 1/48 B-24 interior I would be grateful of any tips or sources of suitable resin parts as I would like to make this good kit into a great finished model as I have many pictures of the interior to guide me.

By the way, it is going to be finished in Alclad aluminium externally and ‘Dragon and His tail’ decals so it will certainly stand out amongst the other kits on display.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian,

Might be able to help you there with some research I have. There was also an article some time ago in FSM, which I think dealt with a 1/72nd scale kit. I have a copy of it somewhere, I think.

Email me off the board & I’ll see what I can dig up for you [;)]

Lets have some pics too, eh? [:D]

This will take you to a bunch of interior photos of the B-24J that’s currently flying as

“A Dragon and His Tail”. Enjoy. http://www.b24project.com/photo_gallery.htm

I spent two years building up my D variant,“Moby Dick”. I was lucky enough to actually speak to a retired pilot who flew during the war in the Lib, complete with black and white photo’s. I scratch built most of my interior with strip styrene and bits from my spares box.I scoured stores and magazines for more reference photos as well. I used surplus bombs and what not for the oxygen tanks as well as cut up staples for spent shell casings on the floor of the waist gunners.Very time consuming project but well worth it as I it placed first in two local contests where I used to live.I would post pics but unfortunatley I don’t have the means to do so. Good luck with your build!

I have several digital shots that I took of a J varient.I don’t believe that this aircraft has been restored so it should be fairly accurate.I couldn’t get into the cocpit but I do have several shots of the bomb bay, rear compartment, wheel wells and engine nacels. If you send me you email addy,I’ll send you what I have.

Verlinden makes a Update for the B-17, this kit includes oxygen bottles, fire extinguishers etc. I also am planning to use the plumbing for the superchargers on my B-24.
