Right,
Currently I’m constructing a 1/72 B24 for an upcoming event and I need some help.
First: Does anyone know of any good websites which show the aircraft in detail mainly the engines and bomb bay?
Secondly:I want to stick it on a base and I’m wanting to find a 1/72 bomb trailer which I can add to, it does anyone now of any?
If you can find one or someone who is willing to part with the parts, the Airfix Short Stirling kit has a very nice little tow tug with three or four trailers loaded with 500 lb bombs.
Quincy, what you said struck some kind of note with me. So I went and dug around at the bottom of a stack of kits and came up with Airfix Series 6 kit 06002, a 1/72 Stirling B.1/111. Upon opening this ancient find, I noted airplane parts so beriveted as to appear to have the plague, the black plastic it’s molded in doing nothing to help dispell this notion. But there are lots and lots of parts, and among them is indeed a really cool, surprisingly well-detailed period airfield tug and at least one bomb trolly to go with it.
I have no idea why I have this kit. Not that I wouldn’t like to have a Stirling among my planes, but it would need to be a modern kit and in “my” 1/48 scale. I think I got this in a bulk buy off this guy who was going blind and had to ditch his kits. You’d think he’d sell them cheap, given the circumstances, but the guy SKINNED me. And he should have kept this Stirling anyway, because the beast appears to be molded in Braille.
TOM
The bomb carts and tractor in the Stirling are british and wouldn’t normally be seen at a USAAF base (not normally but sometimes). Haven’t seen much for US airfields. There is Hasagawa’s old Jimmy tanker but the new Heller and Academy trucks are much nicer (just cargo versions). The Academy kit comes with some accessories and they are also releasing a kit with a US Ambulance.
Couldn’t find any aftermarket for the B-24 bombay. The Academy kit comes with a pretty nice one as is whick looks good oob but can be added to.
Try Flightpath @ http://www.djparkins.claranet.co.uk/fltpath/fpmaster.htm as they have a few bits of interest under their 1/72nd WWII heading. They have a detail set, plus a great big bomb trolley set, and even some airfield buildings if you get the urge to do a diorama. I’ve had a few things off them in 1/48th scale for my 2 B-24s (D & J) before now & they’re good quality kit
The detailing set “Provides front and rear turret framing, cockpit framing, plus many interior, gun, airframe, undercarriage and bomb-bay details, to help you in making a super-detailed model of ‘The Soldier’.” That sounds like your monkey!
. The guy that runs the company (David Parkins) is also a good bloke & very helpful if you drop him an email.
