B 17g Fortress III [BU-G] - progress

G’day Folk’s,

This RAF Fortress III is of 214 Bomber Support Squadron, 100 Group, which is replicated here as a very early Electrinic Counter Measure’s bird, most of the added on bits came from the ‘spare’s box’. Of note are the H2S radome and the painted out nose windows, the ABC transmission mast is made from a length of brass wire, to get this to sit in possion the fuselage was drilled to allow the mast to stand up, the Airborne Grocer and Monica aerials are fitted on the tail turret.

This type of aircraft retained only the upper gun turret and tail gunner positions all other deffencive weapons were removed, the cammo scheme on this bird is all humbrol enamel’s, the ‘night’ black is the semi gloss black. This model was obtained S/H part built and several broken pieces, hence my subject of a BU-G.
There are a few touch up’s and additions to do yet, before this model is complete.

Sorry if the photo’s seem a bit on the dark side.

Hey Rob,
Very nice build…!!! Is that the 72nd Academy kit?? If so, how are they interms of fit, sink marks, detail, ect ect.
I want to get the “G” model but was not really sure how they were. Liked nice in the box though.
Looking forward to seeing your finished Fortress.
Flaps up,Mike

joe

great stuff there Rob. Cant wait to see it all done

That looks awesome! How are you fabricating the H2S randome? I didn’t know the RAF Equipped B-17s with them (i read that the fortresses were mainly used by coastal command)… It’s looking good! [tup]

Mike: I’m building an Academy 1/72 B-17G at the moment and the kit isn’t half bad. The interior detail leaves something to be desired, but then again, this is a 1/72 kit. the only real fit problem i’ve encountered is at the wing roots, so make sure you get the right dihedral. [:D]
