I am trying to make a Monogram B-17 for display at the 8th AF museum @ Barksdale AFB after display at the 8th AF assc reunion in 2006. It will be a late “G” from the 486th BG, 833 BS. I have purchased all the detail sets I could find + about a dozen books. I could use help in finding any detail accessories out of production and sources for photos from WW2. I have already visited the 8th AF and 486th BG web sites. And to let you know, I am doing this without getting paid. Thanks in advance for any help.
My advice is to stop reserching and start building.
Go slowly, do your best with what you have, enjoy doing it and then let go.

Naswingman2,
LOL…I think Don may be right…sounds like you’ve got everything you need already.
Go for it, mate - and good luck!
Your toughest part will be relocating the “staggered” waist window found on the late G’s and the Chyenne tail turrent with larger window area. Good luck! I live down in Lafayette and have yet to visit the 8th AAF Museum. I keep missing the Airshows in April.
Sounds to me like you’ve got everything you need so just get started, and keep us posted on your progress as it sounds like it will be a great build!
when you get done make sure to post some pics!love to see some!my oppinion take your time on this one and also be clever when you do details, think of stuff that would normly be missed! good luck -brad
[#welcome] to the forum. As stated above, you have enough to get started. There were a lot of individual field modifications to the B-17 as well as other combat aircraft. Look carefully at pictures from the units you mentioned. Look for different antenna, gun locations in the nose, special markings, etc. I believe I am correct in saying that the B-17 up through the F model had the waist gun positions directly across from each other. I had thought that the G started the staggered position right from the beginning, but it may have been a later mod on the assembly line. Some G kits have the staggered position and some do not. Many if not most of the B-17s were manufactured with the long stinger tail turret and then went directly to a modification center and had the Cheyenne tail turret installed prior to going overseas to combat.

I wish ya the best of luck! Take it slow & easy… I have the 1:48 scale Revell/Monogram (kit#5600) and, have been adding AM parts to it. Verlinden Productions (VE 0718) Update set for the B-17G comes complete with the Cheyenne Tail Turret. Many other “correct” parts. It’s worth it & adds alot to the interior which is fairly bland to begin with.
Kep your razor sharp,… Get BUSY!! Do post pics when you’re done. The Late “G” mods had the staggered waist guns
Hey Vance, you might have to re-do this link It don’t work!!
