Was in Amsterdam on business last week… found a shop called Aviation Megastore on the web close to Schiphol. Headed down to check it out…
Wow!! Living in N. Ireland, local model shops are the size of a living room. This was an entire warehouse with a frickin’ jet of some description hanging from the roof (I have no idea what it was I’m ashamed to say, some tiny trainer).
Essentially, this shop was too big! I had fatigue after 2 hours, but did manage to pick up a pile of stuff which is illegal to post to Ireland (Alclad, Accelerator, Mr. Putty).
Am now looking forward to having to transfer internationally at Schiphol. Before in the past it’s a hellish wait, but in the future I’ll be jumping on the bus and heading to Nirvana!
The Aviationmegastore is a great place. Altough it is “only” an hour by car from my house, limit myself to go there to twice a year. Else I would spend all my money there.
It really is the ultimate LHS, they have just about everything a aircraft modeller needs! You can easily spend two or three hours there.
And the owner is an avid modeller himself (duh!) and IMPS supporter (for instance by opening his shop for SIG meetings, supporting the nationals etc.)

Yeah, 2-3 hours passed in the blink of an eye… but get this, my wife was with me. I think that tells you how much my wife loves me if she was able to cope with that hardship
I would love to live just an hour from there, but I agree it’s a double-edged benefit!
Yes, it’s one awesome looking place which I haven’t been lucky enough to visit - one day maybe!
The plane in the shop (the real one) is a PZL TS-11 Iskra, a Polish trainer / light attack aircraft - currently still the mount of the Polish Air Force’s aerobatic team, Team Iskry / Bialo-Czerwone Iskry (“White-and-Red Sparks”).
We do… Although I can’t remember the name of the place right now, I gotta dig through my stuff to find their catalog… I do remember that they’re located near Davis-Monthan AFB though… I bought a lotta stuff there back in the 80/90s… Things like flight helmets, flight-suits, parachutes, sticks, aK-14 gunsight,and my pride & joy (until I sold it '99 anyway) an F-80 ejection seat that I converted to an office chair… The Martin-Baker seats they had were too expensive…
