I’m a nut for P-40’s and specifically those of the AVG. I have a good amount of reference already, but perhaps someone out there has come across something that I may have missed. If you know of a website please throw the link my way! If you know of a book that’s been published, please let me know.
I have a major project planned, and though it will take some time for my ideas to come to fruition, I want to get a head start. Especially in the R&D department!
While we’re on the subject, General Robert L. Scott of “God is My Copliot” fame will celebrate his 90th birthday next week. An AVG art show is being held at the Warner Robins Museum of Air on April 3. The General will be on hand to discuss his service with the AVG and the 23rd FG in WWII. Very pleasant and generous man. Check out the Rober L. Scott Fan Club site, as well as the Warner Robins Museum site for details. - Ed
Hey ya Blackwolf,
Even thou this aint ref material but do you have the “AVG” decals that AeroMaster did as a collection.
Hopefully you know the ones I’m refering to?? Had to put my 2cents in. Its cool that they give you Boyingtons a/c aswell.
Let me see what I can come up with. Major project you say…!!!
Flaps up, Mike aka Butzwhole. HAPPY WAYNE…[:p]
Try “A Pictorial History of the Flying Tigers” by Larry Pistole. Lots of color and black and white photos, lots of personal and unusual info on the AVG… Was out of production for years, but has been reprinted recently. Check Amazon.com and eBay. Barnes &Noble and BooksAMIllion can special order it for you. I think the price is about $35-40 bucks. -Ed
What have you been smokin’ over the last week or so? [:p] You know very well that I bought Ace out when he got the AVG special in a couple years back. [;)] And yeah, a “Major Project”. Can you say 99 Hawks? [:p][;)]
Fitter,
Thanks, got 'em both!
Keyworth,
Bob Scott is indeed a generous man, a friend of mine took my original hard-cover copy of “God is My Co-Pilot” down to WR for him to sign. Really nice guy, I wish I could be there to meet and thank him in person.
Boybuddho,
Yep, have seen that site, thanks though!
And last, but not least… Shaggy,
I have NOT seen that site before. Thanks 2 much! (I’m still waiting for reference shots of the interior of the Mystery Machine! Pizza-pie stains all over?)
Blackwolf,
I have heard of “99 bottles of beer on the wall” before LMAO.
Yeah I know what ya mean, that is how I am w/ the 357th FG So how did the get together go???
Flaps up Mike [:D]
Yep, have that book too. I lucked out with that one, we took a trip to the IPMS NATS last year in Virginia Beach and made an un-guided tour of the middle-upper east coast on the way down. Stopped in DC to see the Smithsonian, Arlington and all the joggers in spandex ([:p]) and found a copy in the Smithsonian gift shop, marked down to $25. Got back to the hotel room and discovered it was signed! Someone goofed BIG time. hehe
Slick, really slick. I had taht happen with a couple of bios I found at a small bookstore. Trade paperback editions of Joe Foss’ bio and Dean Hess’ (Battle Hymn; made into a flick w/Rock Hudson.) Got home, opened them and found legit autographs. Do you Have the Ospry Camo and Markings of the AVG? -Ed
I was gonna build Kibosh when I was about 14. I used the Revell kit and did a really nice scratchbuilt cockpit, then promptly melted it with too strong and saturated a wash! LMAO
Perhaps I’ll try that one again sometime, no scratch stuff though!.
Ace Hobby Shop in Niagara Falls, NY. Yeah, they’re still there. Just moved to a new location within the last year or so. I noticed earlier that you’re from WNY? (I think you mentioned Buffalo in a post)
