AV-8B, monogram kit # 5448

Good morning everyone.

I have been on the hunt for a 1/48 scale harrier. Hasagawa makes a 1/72, but the only 1/48 I have found is by monogram, Kit #5448. Unfortunely this kit is out of production and seems to be pretty hard to find. I’ve looked all over the net and at three local hobby stores. Any suggestions on how to find a mint condition hard to find/ out of production kit? I had this kit three years ago and gave it to a fellow modeling buddy who “Just had to have it”. With the merge of revell and monogram I don’t know how to get ahold of this kit, and now that it’s out of my reach I just have to have it!!

Check Squadron. It looks like the have the kit, but a different stock number.

I was just at my local hobby shop earlier today and yup he had one or two of the Monogram AV-8B’s on the shelf. Not sure of what the kit # was. I want to say 5448. I’m not sure though.

I read in a recent UK magazine that Hasagawa are planning to release a 1/48 harrier in the “near” future. It was sceduled for a 2003 release but knowing Hasagawa we may have quite a long wait. I do not know if it will be a borrowed mould (i.e. monogram) or a new tooling but if it is, it sure will be worth waiting for…[:D]

retiredoldtimer here; one of the planes my daughter gave was a Monogram AV-8B Harrier1/48 The box was open but plastic bagged parts. So keep looking, they’re still out there. I already have two Harriers built so I may be persuaded to let this one go if your local to DFW,Tx

Hasegawa also has a line of 1/48 Harriers. They have done the AV-8B, AV-8B+ and AV-8B NA in various boxings over the last 10 years. Some of the many kit # to look for are 07234, 07228, 09605.

I enjoied working over a wing of 1-1 scale av-8’s at holloman afb in the late 80s. the marins would go in to the wild blue. see a 2nd lt in a 1954 oat38 b below and go for it. then we would pounce on their entire flight. oh what fun it is to bounce a marine fighter wing with obsolete aircraft and make then tuck in their ties… lol.lol. lol. lol…
