Yeah, right! But I thought that if I glue everything with CA they will all look the same and in that way everyone will think it’s supposed to be that way [X-)] See you head on on the next IPMS-Open, I’ll try to finish a bike and you finish your rallye-car and we can compete on homeground. How’s that for a challenge :D]
Interesting indeed. I’ll take you up on that one. Anyhow it could make me finish this piece off in a reasonable time… Had to go buy another kit to get the correct set-up, but know I’m ready to paint some shell. Yours look terrific by the way. Planning to use Future as on your yellow project or are you heading back to Modelers’?

Only just founnd this site and i singed up straight away! If it is within the rules to build single seaters i’ll be building a Tamiya Lotus 99T of '87 converted to the '86 JPS version. Is that ok?
Hope to see the progress that you-all will be making![:D]
Hey Joel, you’re getting waaay ahead here! [:D][:D] sigh Despite a public holiday yesterday, I did almost nothing. Still busy with the dash. I tend to do the body (building and) painting quite early, seemingly same as you. This time I am a bit sceptic about my masking techniques to get this thing painted! But I guess I might bite that bullet sooner rather than later. No funky masking masks (hehehe) included, except for the windows. To be fair, most will be easy. There’s just a few curved lines running (to make it worse) over curved areas. Hiding it… with decals seemingly running on the edges… yeah right!
Oi, why did I not buy the “Gone in 60 seconds” version which has only one colour! [;)] Most likely it will be much easier than it feels now. Just really not looking forward to it at this stage…
LeMan Minatures is a name that springs to mind but I haven’t checked whether they did or not. Try Grand Prix Model’s ( www.grandprixmodels.com ) searchable database .
Read about a quite interesting masking technique yesterday, wich I will try on my dash (when I get there, mid November…) and that was to use blue tack, seemed to confirm real nice to the curved areas and the author didn’t report any paint lift offs. Will definetely try that one.
/Joel - the progress man
Sounds good… but…ehhhrrr… what is blue tack?[:I] (Maybe it’s just a language/cultural difference thing and I know it, but not by that name…) I use Tamiya masking tape, which really did the job thusfar for me. But if there’s something better…
Blue tack is the stuff you use to put up posters on the wall with, a kind of “silly putty” that’s tacky and quite soft. I use it to mask of aeroplanes with when I need a soft edge camoflage. It’s a splendid idea to use it as a paint mask when you can’t get the masking tape to snuggle down enough. I’ll try it out, I love new techniques [:)] just have to try everything that comes up. One thing to remeber about blue tack is that some sorts may be rather “oily” and leave a mark on flat colours that wan’t come away. Try on a scrap piece before you go ahead using on the real stuff, it’s no fun when things mess up [:(] BTW I did put some putty on my CLK chassi to get rid of thoose ejection marks. Also put a second coat on the bodywork, bad luck struck with the paint job. Why is it that dust has to end up in places where there’s no decals to be!? Very frustrating indeed, have to get me another can of TS-17 and try to hunt down the dust with some water spray before the next paint session. But all in all, it’s slowly coming it’s way to completion.
Aaah, okay! Know what it is! We call it “wondergom” - directly translated something close to “wonder(full) glue”. I can see it being much easier to conform to contours, but how easy will it be to get the exact lines right? And you’ll have to be carefull of paint build-up in the “corner” it will surely create, as it will be thicker that masking tape, thus not allowing the paint to travel so nicely over it. Or Joel, did the article you read cover that and how to get around it easier?
But for sure I’ll play around with it a bit. It may be the answer I was looking for!
So you can fairly say you’ll be finished before the end of July [:D]
My plans for the weekend is to go for some serious decaling and do the doors, gas tank, foot rests and perhaps the mirrors where the latter will pose for the biggest threat for my patience. Could end up like crap but that’s some of the challange.

Man, I am really enjoying this! Unfortunately, I will be less available as of this afternoon. Yep, it is a very sad day… I am going on leave! [swg] Will be able to build some this weekend, then as of Monday my wife and I are going on a mountain trip. Man, it’s going to be cold!!
Once defrosted, I will continue.
On my list for this weekend: play around with that blue tack idea for masking, maybe build up the body shell, for sure will build roll cage (allready painted) and a few of the other internal pieces. At last it might start looking like a race car of sorts…
Found out that the roll cage of my Peugeot can be totally assebled before putting it on the chassis wich is good when it comes to cleaning up the parts.
I allways have high hopes when thinking of all the stuff I’ll build during weekends but I seldom do that much actually. I’m more of that weekday night owl type that take the boxes out when the dog has gotten her last stroll and the misses has tucked in. Unfortunately this makes me a much slower builder than I want to be. It irritates me some times but I’ve gotten somewhat used to it. Half a year to finish this GB would be suffice though…
Have a happy vacation Seabee, are you hiking or even climbing?
