Try and post some pics (if you can or are able to). 5. Start Date 1st June 2004. 6. End Date 1st Dec 2004. 7. Anyone is welcome. 8. You can join at anytime & leave at anytime. 9. Scale Auto & Finescale Modeler Auto Forums are combining together. 10. A badge will be designed and you can only use it once you’ve finished your car! 10. Have fun!
a group build is where a group of people build similar or the same model/subjects within a set time period. Everyone motivates eachother, sharing hints’n’tips on srcatchbuilding, painting, detailing, referencing, etc, and post progress photos of their workbench models. Its pretty fun and u learn helps of stuff that you didnt know before! Also us lads design a badge (see mine in my signature) and guys who participate can wear it as a badge of honour! (just one of the perks!). There’s some basic rules to each group build like start & finish dates, use of OOB or aftermarket products, closure dates for joining, etc, etc. But most of all you Are to have FUN build models!
so far 5 guys here and @ Scale Auto have expressed interest. If enough people are keen, maybe start in July/Aug. More people join once its started cos they see the progress pics!
Luke, it sounds great. As nicolma also said - it’s the majority of what I build. I am at this stage, however, a bit pressed for time, so building against time might not be an option for me. But I’d like to participate, even if I lag behind a bit at times! Maybe I won’t even get finished in time, but it sounds like fun.
Also, what are planned for subjects? I have just cleaned up 2 kits to start working on. If one of them falls into the subject category, I’d rather hang on and build it with you guys. Or if starting a wee bit early is not criminal, I’ll be fine.
best to ask nicholma - our kiwi bud who probably knows more than I, cos I’m more of a ship & a/c builder. I think there’s a few small companies located in the eastern states that produce some kits.
I see in the rules that any racing car will do. Does this need to be a “special” model. Tell you what I mean and why I’m asking: I have quite a few nice models (e.g. seethru Williams and Ferrari F1’s) I still have to come to, most with detail sets, etc. At this stage, however, I was just about to start on a vanilla (OTB) project.
With a few other things cropping up, I’d prefer to keep it that way, since my time might be limited. I am looking forwards to this a lot; think it will be a great chance to learn.
Okay, this thread is stickied. I guess that means you have an “official” group build going. When it’s done we’re gonna want to see photos from everybody of their finished models. [:)]
I’m not aware of any kits of recent cars although I’m sure I’ve seen some vacformed bodies of Fords and Holdens about 5 or so years ago in 1/25th or 1/24th. Going back a bit there were a few 1/43rd kits produced of the L34 and A9X Toranas, Moffart’s Rothmans Commodore and the Brock Commodore from the Sap 24hr (1986?). Unfortunately no Fords that I’m aware of. You’ll be aware of the Roodecals available for the R31 and R32 Skylines, the BMW’s and the Sierra’s. They also produced a sheet with decals for Moffart’s Mustang, the Bob Jane Camaro, a Cooper and the Foley (?) 911. An outfit in Germany I think produced a heap of decal sheets in 1/43rd for BMW’s including the Aussie John Player cars as well as the B&H M3’s.
There may be more Aussie Touring Car aftermarket stuff, anyone know?
Nicholma, it sounds as if your mind is as decidedly made up as mine! [:D][:D]
Still wondering which kit to go for! Coinsidently, I have that self-same Toyota kit. But as that is my last remaining WRC kit, I will most likely go for the F1 or DTM option. Challenge no. 1: which box, which box, wich box…? [%-)] [;)] [:-^]
today I picked up Tamiya’s 24th Peugeot 206 ‘winner version’.
This is my first rally or racing car. My others were just normal civial sports cars (if you can call them that!). There’s heaps of decals, and I dont like doing them very much - fearing I’ll stuff them up - but I will conquer this one lol.
Good stuff, is that the 2002 car? I have 2 of them as well (got both for Christmas presents but I really only want one). Decals are fine as long as you take time and use a decal softener. Use this forum to help when you start on them.
nicholma - yeah kit 24262 - it comes with 2x figures that are standing with a trophy and a bottle of bub. I aint gonna build those guys - aint too crazy about them.
As it happens, I stood with a Subaru in my hands earlier today. Tempted as I was, I had a think back at the heap that still has to be done and left it. (Now that took some guts!) I am pretty sure it had seated driver figures noted as a feature on the box. Not sure about which spesific kit it was, but I think it was a 2002 one. For sure Sollberg was one of the options, and I thinmk with a #11, so it can’t have been a 2003 kit.
As for decals… I agree with nicholma. Softener and patience will get you there. I am used to building bikes, where the curves and decal complexity of some make you shiver! And recently built 2 Mercs in Original-Teile colourschemes: the DTM one, as well as the Le Mans car… Decals straight from hell! It looks great once you’re done, but you loose a lot of weight due to stress! [:D][:D] Naah, it’s not that bad. Believe me, it’s much easier than it looks!
I have been casting this back and forth for quite a while, should I join or not? I have sooo much to do I do not think I can, but If I have six months. . .
Interesting About having the Subaru in your hand SeaBee. . .I have a piece of a Subaru driven by Solberg! It doesn’t look like much, and it has major road rash on it but it was from his car.
Anyway, (big breath) Count me in. I’ll start on my WRC on the First of June. . .even if it just means I open the box!!
dont worry if you just open the box! I’ve joined a couple of other group builds and I havent even bought a model for them yet. Those GB’s go for six months so it doesnt matter if i join up now or in Sept, cos I’ll have some time to finish cos those ones finish in Dec. That’s why I made the finish in Dec; also you can leave at anytime (that’s if things get to heavy for ya - but that’s no fun LOL).
I had to make room on my bench because I’ve currently got 4 cars, 1 ship and 1 aircraft on the go plus another car for the Aussie group build and I’ve already started on one of the 2 models I’m building for this group build! Anyway see my post for the one finished today.
Luke yes I think Tamiya also do seated rally crew as a seperate set. Modellers used to do a very nice set but I’m not sure if they’re still doing them.
