Australain RAAF F-4 Phantom II.. Royal Australian Navy A-4 Skyhawk.

Still plugging along with my Australian collection… The first one is a fighter that is dear to my heart… The Australian F-4… Although we only had them while we awaited the arrival of the F-111. It just amazes me as to why the Australian governmnet let them go back to the US, and didnt utilise them further than they did…

First pic is of the Aussie Phantom after painting at the MD factory.

Heres mine.

My second model was my version of an Australian Navy Skyhawk… I also understand that Australia never used the hump back Skyhawks. But rather than let the kit go to waste. I decided to do this one as my Navy version.

Mine.

That is it for a while… I have some other kits waiting to be done. But as I have been non stop modelling on my time off over the last week or more. I promissed the wife that I would do some things around the house… So the others will have to wait for now!

Great looking builds. Bryan

Hey aus,

I also have an australian navy a-4 project in the works…it will be a A-4G in the wraparound admiralty blue/grey…with gekko graphics decals…

I’m gonna continue it with an A-4K kiwi in european I colors…

I love your kits…good work

Tank

Hey Tank… I plan doing another skyhawk that is a little more canon… This one was a kit that I had and thought I would try… To be honest, I am happy with the way it turned out. But I do prefer the older hawks with no hump back!.. Would love to see your bird when its ready!

hmmm you might need to clarify a bit more which of those are the models[;)]

Very nice builds Chris. Good work !

Regards, Rick

Thank you for the compliments guys!

Nice job, as always, Chris!! Where did you find the Aussie decals for the Phantom? Did they come w/ the kit or were they AM? - Calvin

They were after market mate… They are from a company called Aussie decals that are made in my home city back in Aus… These are the decals for the RAAF F-4 Phantoms of Amberley Airforce base, where I grew up!.. I have actually had a friend order me some more for a few other projects that I am working on!

Yes, the Aussie Decals Company are what’s known as a ‘back-yard business’, in that it’s only really run by one or two people in a garage somewhere in Australia. From what I’ve seen on here though, they must be doing some pretty good business.
Great looking builds, Chris.
Cheers,
John

Nice work on the A-4 and the F-4. I especially like the Phantom.

Yeppo, Aussie Decals are actually in Ipswich Queensland. Just down the road from Amberley Airforce Base. I am originally from the Amberley Willowbank area!.. Not sure if my info is correct. But I think they are slowing down with the decals now, as alot of thier sheets have been taken out of production. I was lucky enough to get the last 1/72 Australian Blackhawk, Kiowa decal sheet when I was in Ipswich visiting relatives 2 weeks ago!

As for the F-4, I am very happy with that one also, as its one of my favourite aircraft! And the Australian ones always looked like they had been beaten to death, even though we didnt have them long! As for the A-4, it turned out very well with the paint and decals, and looks pristine. But its not canon, as the Australian Navy never used the hump back versions. So it is now starting to bug me a little, and I want to either cut the top off, or just start again with an older Skyhawk kit/

Man, you sure done those up nice!! [:)] Like Jinithith2 said, it’s hard to tell which are the models… [;)]… thanks for posting!

Take care,
Frank

Thanks Frank. Always appreciate your words mate!

Chris,

Nice birds you have, when I get around to my own A-4 Skyhawk, I’d like to do a Kiwi one. I have the F-4e in 48 to do for the RAAF Officer Training School as part of their ongoing builds of aircraft significant to the History of the RAAF.
Their latest additions are the ‘Wedgetail’ and the A300 tanker.

Please update us as the build progresses Rob!.. My problem is that I build so fast that I always forget about taking progress shots until its done…

Chris, unless you have a special camera, I don’t think the flash on most cameras would be fast enough for you!! [:p][:D] Calvin
