yeah, i had found that page too. thanks heaps for your effort though. i’ll keep up the search. there’s got to be record somewhere.

j.s. The hasagawa kit only has the does have both tails in the kit but references show that the only tail to be used is the sharper one, either aircraft. This kit includes decals for two aircraft, one Caldwell’s Aircraft the other for tail number A58 -652 this aircraft carries the name “Grey Nurse” and has a sharks mouth design on the nose. The Squadron markings are for 457 Sqn.

Hope this helps

For those who are interested, the South Australian Plastic Modellers Association (sapma) just got a new bulletin board up and running as part of their website.

The web address is www.gumnut.net/sapma for the aussie modellers it could be worth a look.

Hello All,

Anyone know of any modeling comps etc that happenin Aust every year? … particularily ones around brisbane ?

ILuv3ggs;

The Queensland Model Hobbies Expo and Scale Modelling Championships will be over the weekend of 21 & 22 August 2004 in Brisbane if you want more info visit their website at www.qmhe.com

Other comps that I know of are:

ACTSMS Comp in Canberra to be held on the[?] first weekend in June I think , I will have to find out for sure as I intend to entre a model in this one.

NSW Scale Model Competition and Expo. 1 & 2 of May.

South Australian Scale Model Expo 30 & 31 of October.

Hopes this help.

p.s can supply more details if required

in Perth (not that it would be much use to you boyz) the Western Australian Scale Model Expo is the main annual display run over a long wkend - last yr it was May or June (cant remeber as i didnt go) and the event hasnt been confirmed this year.

Another hobby & model expo in country WA is in Bindoon about 2ish hrs north of Perth (bout 1hr from my place) & usually in November. I dont know which club organises this.

Other than that, those are the only two official model display & comp shows - does anyone know of any others?

Hey folks!

Well stone the crows and starve the lizards, I resisted the temptation to say ’ G’day Mates!’

Just joined the forum yesterday, I’m Andy from the beautiful Yarra Valley, 'bout an hour east of Melbourne. It’s over 40 years since I built my first kit - an Airfix Spitfire - and between then and the end of Uni I think I built all the Airfix armour kits and a fair selection of the planes. After that I got side-tracked into model railways for more years than I care to remember, but of late toy trains just don’t do it like they used too! So here I am, back in plastic, probably concentrating on small armour prototypes in 1/72 and 1/35, and WW2 ships in 1/700. Then I always wanted to do a series of twin engine WW2 planes. And early jets. And sailing ships. And…

And just for the record, this is probably the most open, warm and welcoming forum I ever joined! Not just this thread, but the whole thing! Its nice to be here! [:D]

Cheers, Andy!

thanks for the info south aussie ill grab that hasagawa kit.

Welcome to the forum PHIL FROM VIC period sailing ships eh,i had a look at the first part of the build the victory week by week at the local newsagent but 100 parts =100 weeks a little to long for me and a bit pricey at $1195.00 after 2 years.I assume you build wooden ships they seem daunting to me all those planks and bulkheads but imagine the finished ship on the shelf. seeya around the forum mate.

Getting back to AUSSIE models Acadamy make a 1/32 scale sopwith camel.I have a lot of info on an Australian pilot during ww1 called Robert Little,July 19 1895 to May 27 1918 only 23 when he died anyway this guy shot down 47 EA.The only info i dont have is what his camel looked like only its serial no N5493.Does anyone know if the RAAF keeps archives or has anyone have a photo or colour plate of this camel.
THANKS JS.

awsome, thanks for that south Aussie, might have to look into putting something in that [:D] - maybe my leopard if its good enough

Hey Andy i didnt see your note you got it in 12 minutes before mine so it wasnt there before i started typing and yes it took that long to type my last message computers still confuse me only had this one for a month.and i agree GDAY does sound alittle corny.

j.s.harrison, thanks for your input.
I know I saw somewhere about the variation between the 2.

Guess I’ll keep looking and try and get it as close as possible.

j.s Yes the RAAF does keep archives, usually well buried, but if you contact the RAAF Museum at Pt Cook in Melbourne they may be able to help you. Can’t remember their contact details at present but Ill try to find it and get back to you.

[#welcome][#welcome] Phil and Andy, I gave up counting how many of us are members of the FSM Forum at about page 4 of this thread,[:0]never thought it would last this long when I started it[:0]. It turned out to be a good way of us aussies to keep in touch with one another and passing on local information.

P.S. Andy I have also been involved in Model Railways over the years, but like you Im finding scale modelling a bit more motivating.

ILuv3ggs, Go for it, it can be worth while just to find out how you rate amoungst other modellers. The only thing to bear in mind is, regardless of what others think including [X-)]judges[X-)], the only person you have to prove yourself to is you. [B)]Once had a bad time with a judge[B)].

Gday guys,
I have a question for anybody living in Brisbane.I’m going up there for a couple of days this month and was wondering if there are any good hobby shops close to the CBD? I was there last year and found a little one in a plaza but can’t remember the name.Does anybody have any favourite ones worth looking for ?Thanks,
Jeff

Thanks for that South Aussie i did try the raaf museum at point cook and they drew a blank,Little didnt join the afc because there were 500 applicants for the first 4 places so he sailed to england and joined the rnas which was combined with the rfc in 1918 to form the raf so i looked at the raf records and drew a blank too. I did happen to find colour plates of the sopwith pup and sopwith triplane he flew before the camel just by typing his name into google but still no pics of the camel which is the one i want to make. This camel doesnt want to be found, anyway i sent an email to a british WW1 historian hoping he can help.If i still cant get a pic ill have to make the triplane N5493 called “BLYMP”.Hey does Little still qualify for the group build only asking because he never flew with the AFC but he was an AUSSIE born in Hawthorn Melbourne.
(PS) anyone know who makes sopwith triplanes in 1/48 or larger.

Talk to you soon regards J.S.

Sulo, the only shop i can suggest visiting is Hobby-Rama, its not in the CBD tho, thats the only one i go to apart from online ordering … its a tad expensive, but there is a massive range of platic models, RC aircraft, the works …

www.hobbyrama.com.au - website is pretty … lame, but the address is there and everything, and it only a quick bus ride from the city, if u need more info, just ask

i think i would have a much harder time trying to model something to my satisfaction then the judges … i set my limits to far above my skill limit … but thats what this GB is about for me … tuning my skills into something nice [:P]
