I’m making a 1/72 scale diorama of the Auschwitz death camp and I have a few questions with which I need help. My father was a survivor of Auschwitz and Sachsenhausen (1941-1945). When he passed away last year, I felt inclined to commemorate a bit of history so my children might be inclined to learn and remember some of the Nazis’ atrocties.
I’m using HO scale buildings for the camp layout: a modified dairy for the crematorium, “Novel Iron Works” factory buildings for the SS Administration building and two of the prisoner barracks, a railroad swithc-tower for the Auschwitz camp entrance, and Airfix and Preiser figures for the SS personnel and camp prisoners. An HO scale cattlecar makes for a death train. 1/72 scale Tiger tanks and Kubelwagens are easy to find and provide some action.
My first question, gruesome as it may seem, is where can I find 1/72 scale naked dead bodies? My dad saw piles and piles of them.
My second question: Auschwitz had a double electric fence with concrete support posts that had a tapered curve at the top. How on earth can I make those tapered, curved fenceposts? Especially in 1/72 scale?
As for your first question, I dont think that anyone makes figures for such topics.
You might have to scratch. But someone will probably prove me wrong.
For scale naked figures (I made a nudest colony scene on my model railroad ,I bought scale swimmers at my hobby shop and trimmed the bathing suits off carefully with a sharp knife, looks great. Second item… curved fence posts buy solid plastic shapes ( same hobby shop) and bend them over a candle flame
