Just joined the FSM forums today and have been soaking up the information. Thought someone might help me out with this- I’m 52, and as a teenager was a “2001 fanatic”. Purchased the Aurora Moon Bus in 1969, and I’m beginning to get a feeling that I’d like to sell it (rather than build it) in order to buy a few new kits.
I gather it’s quite collectable. An ebay search today showed nothing, so I was wondering if anyone out there might have any background info on this kit, or could direct me to where I might learn more?
I wish I could afford that kit! I always wondered if there was one made.
If I did have that kit I think it would be hard for me to part with it.
I buy a lot of stuff on Ebay and have seen some things go for incredible prices. I see many sellers post a starting bid, so maybe you could do the same. If you don’t get what you’re asking, relist it at a lower starting price until you get some bites.
I was in Manhattan last week, and yeah!!! It was cold!!! (and I’m from Denver!) I hear it was even worse this last week with all the snow. Where in NY are you?
I think the kit’s value on eBay is directly related to how available other versions of the ship are.
I have an unbuilt Aurora Moonbus and when I tried to sell it on eBay a couple of years ago, it didn’t meet its fairly low reserve price, and didn’t sell. There was a cast-resin version of the ship available, and I imagine the folks who wanted a Moonbus to build went that direction.
Tom Graham’s “Greenberg’s Guide to Aurora Model Kits” (1998) puts the Aurora kit’s value at $340 - $360.
snightingale,
As already stated, ebay is a good option and you should get a good price for it.
Another option is to set a price you want for it and advertise it here or over at starshipmodeler.com
Or, if you are looking to trade it, what do you build? I have several Startrek kits that need a good home[swg]
It’s a phenominal kit. It’s an original product, so its not one of their famous recasts. Well worth the money. The detail photos of the kit on their website are of my model [snaps suspenders proudly].
Also Capt. Cardboard will be releasing an Injected molded MoonBus sometime this year. His kit is suposed to be in 1/32 scale with the removable roof for under $100 I think (apologies Scott if I got any info wrong)
Once that kit is out I would expect the value of the Aurora kits to drop.

John P, VERY NICE moonbus! Thanks for the link. Did you fix the length problem on the panel behind the pilots?
Hi Guys, Well, it went on ebay today. My wife said “Why? you love that kit.” But I hope someone will enjoy it, and I can buy that compressor I’ve always wanted!
