Ive painted some 1/48 fallschirmjager that are going to be entering a JU-52 transport. I’m using a costal kit diorama bade that’s made of a thicker version of cardboard. whats the best way to attack figures without using glue? I’ve thought of maybe using a pin but how would i go about this?
Drill a hole up into the figures heel and glue a piece of rod or pin into it. Drill a corresponding hole in the base where you want the figure to be and insert the pin into it.

I use straight pins. I’ve got a jar full of them, from getting new dress shirts over the years. That’s also a good source of clear plastic stock-those strips used to make the collar stand up in the package.

What Gino said. I use some brass rod.
I use brass rod, or steel rod (eg, from paper clips, or the handles from Chinese take-out containers) with larger figures, such as 1/20. With figures in smaller scale, sometimes there’s just not enough material to drill into without risking punching out through a leg.
that is one of my worries. I used a paratrooper from the cmk at Crete kit and the boots seemed to not be as strong when it came from removing thebfigures from the plastic and they broke. Maybe it’s because they were 1/48 and not 1/35
I too pin larger figures for the most part. For the little guys I suppose it depends on the surface. For this 1/48 P-51D dio on PSP I used a tiny drop of CA on the boots and the aircraft. I have done some 1/72 dioramas way back and I did slight boot impressions in damp celluclay and glued in later with drops of CA.
