Atomic cannon

When I was growing up I lived not far from Picatinny arsenal. Sometimes I would see the transport cabs for the atomic cannon going down the highway. The night I graduated high school (top 100% of my class) one of the girls show me a picture of her boyfriend over in Vietnam. It was the usual picture of him and his friend standing there with their weapons and flack jackets open. In the background were two Sheridan tanks guarding what looked like an atomic cannon. Someone tried to tell me it had to be a French railway gun. It couldn’t be because it was sitting on its center pedistal. Are there and information about that weapon being deployed there?

The cannon you saw in the pic was most likely a M110 203mm or M107 175mm cannon.

Funny, Im running Norton (current and all) and it detected nothing. I changed the link to a more direct path to the website for info on the 280mm cannon.

Thanks for the warning though

I have pictures posted of it on the reference forum on under the US Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds if you was some more current pics.

I believe the US railguns were only deployed to Korea and Germany. It is unlikely that an asset with such limited capabilities would have been in Vietnam.
