"Atlanta"

Here’s one for all the researchologist![:-^]

What WW II aircraft was originally named the “Atlanta” at the factory only to have a new name applied during the war?[banghead]

Either the answer is way too easy or way too hard.[banghead]

I ran across the answer in "Aircraft of WWII "[8D]

I used to know the answer to that. Killed too many brain cells the past 20 years though. The answer will pop up in my head at some point, hopefully sooner than later. [:-^]

I know. Do you want it here or pm?

Mmmmm…don’t know that one.[%-)]

I’d thought about posting thison the ‘Trivia’ site, but it was way too long and convoluted.[#oops]

Being a WWII fighter Nerd myself, I was suprised that this fact faded into history.[B)]

Come on gang, don’t leave me hangin’![:-^]

It was the P-38 ‘Atlanta’ Lightning.

WTG; Wayne Baker![tup]

Where did you find the answer?[#toast]

Doh [:O], I knew that, don’t know why it answer escaped me. I’ve just got too much information stored in this head of mine. Wish I had a “search” feature for my memmory! [xx(]

this is the site I found that had the name.

I don’t remember ever hearing that before.

That was the name for the prototype until a nearby Sherman had a misfire and burned Atlanta…

Ba-dum-dum

Woohoo I slay me sometimes…

History and humor… add in dancing and I’m a triple threat! Yeah, baby, yeah!

[:D]

Good question, figured it had to be the Lightning because of Lockheed’s business in Atlanta. That, or an upgraded Baltimore
