This thing was labled M-108. I am guessing it was before the M-109 (duh) Figured I’d share some pics and see if you fellows know a little more about them?
Got a few more of some other vehicles. A gun truck, ambulance and such. Don’t want to go to crazy as I made the pics large for detail. Let me know how common these were? Vietnam era?
Interesting…I’ve got some questions too.
Who is the guy? The M108 is marked ARMY, but I was unaware that the US Army ever used the 8-point starched caps, I thought that we always had the soft crushable type.
Also, what kind of MG is that in the interior pic?
I don’t think that’s an M-108…It looks like a British Abbot 105mm to me. The big headlights on the front panel are pretty much a dead giveaway, as well as the mesh screen on the hull side and the cable spool on the turret. The turret shape is too angular, too…I think that the M-108 looks like an M-109 with a dinkier main gun.
The M-108 and M-109 are the same vehicle/turret. The M108 mounted a 105mm howitzer instead of a 155mm. I think it is an Abbot shown here and someone is trying to pull a fast one on the crowd.
On a side note, the US Army did use a soft cap similar to the Marine style, made from HBT cotton, from late WWII thru the 1950s (I still have my fathers). But where the Marine Corps one had a flat panel facing the front for the EGA, the Army design had a corner dead center.
That little thing is an Abbot and the MG is a British Bren Gun of WWII fame…
But 60, what about the M-60 on the roof (sorry bud, I had to say this [:D])

It is I think, an Abbot, a British Army self-propelled in US livery. I think they have retired this in the British Army
I see that it’s labled as an M108, but I’m not sure what it is. The barrel is not an M108 barrel, but looks closer to the 105mm barrel off an M60. And the rounds inside don’t look like any 105 rounds I’ve ever seen (at least in the way they’re painted). I don’t know whatkind of track this is, but it just dosn’t look like an M108. Even the sprockets look different let alone the mantlet. Also never saw any U.S. SPG with a searchlight, but there’s always a first I guess. Lastly I also noticed it has grenade launchers?
There were a few M108’s in Vietnam, but were kinda rare. The Hull is the same as an M109, but think (if I remember right) the interior of the turret is layed out completely different. I trained on them for a very short while.

edit: I just looked at some photos showing an M109 and a M108 side byside. Whatever the track is in the photos; it’s not an M108 for sure.

It is a British 105mm Abbot SP gun… Wrongly marked as a US gun, mis-identified as an M108, with the wrong weapons up top, and the apparent owner is dressed as a Marine. WTF???

Early marks were fielded with the L13 Gun,
& the Mk2 Gun was related to the L118/L119 Light Gun ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L118 )
(The L118/L119 Barrels were interchangable on the TOWED gun, so that the stocks of 105mm M1 Howitzer ammo could be used, btw)

Pic 4, the .303 BREN is nearly right… A 7.62mm Version of the Bren was used for erm… ‘light air defence’, visually, it had a much less curved magazine

Pic 5 Doesn’t look like it has the NBC (ABC) pack on the turret rear, (= VE version) so is highly likely that it was disposed of in Canada…
