Steve: Hopefully I’ll get moving on this sometime next month. I haven’t been feeling that well, and with the ‘Defense of the West/Armour in the West’ GBs ending early next month I’ve been working at getting them finished or close to it before the deadline.

I was looking at a build-up of the howitzer on ‘Modeling the US Army’ and gee this thing is going to take a pile of work if I try to make it halfway accurate.

As a total novice wrt guns, what would you guys sugest as a model for me?? Not to expensive but not so cheap it is a dog

Theuns

The field is wide open. I’m building a working trebuchet, a 24 ponder navel gun and rail hauled 60 cm Mörser Karl.
I guess it depends on what you’r interest is. Jgeratic is doing an 81 mm mortar crew, Rob is building a French Napoleonic field piece, Pvt Mutt and Gamera are building more modern field guns, non of which are way high price wise, I’m guessing, but probably pretty nicely detailed.
I kinda like the rocket launcher angle, we don’t have one of those yet.

Steve

you can find Tamiya towed FLAK pretty cheaply and they make nice builds. some of the Trumpeter guns are nice though the soviet tracked 203mm might be a bit much. also the afv club sIG-33 150mm or the M-102 (modern) are nice. a PRIEST would be easy if you want a track.DANA is an interesting build though big for a first build.

i have a number of missiles in the stash too, SCUD, SS-25, PATRIOT, SAM-2.

talking about crossovers my PATRIOT would fit here, Japanese GB IV, Boeing, and 1/72 when i start the annual one.

I had intended to build this one

Since the start date was pushed back and needing to build something I entered another GB on another site and got started on it.

I had to place some lead in the breech because of the heavy barrel.

I will build this one for your GB

Same carriage and time period but with a different caliber gun and heavier wheels.

Thanx for the feedback, I will go see what is available at my hobby shop.

I wanted to do a 1/35 Denel land systems G-5 ( like the US forces were searching for Sadam’s stach in the gulf) but in all resin it’s above my budget :frowning:

Theuns

I got you updated Tony Lee.

Thank You Sir

Tony lee

I have these two that I’m going to build after I get some of the current builds done…

Step #1 completed:

Step #2,3,4 and 5 is assembling the trails

Step #12:

See Ya Monday

Tony lee

That’s awesome Tony- you always pick such cool stuff!

That’s coming right along Tony, pretty cool! I love the metal barrel.

I done with the Trebuchet. I glued lead bird shot some into the counterweight box for weight.

Steve

Here is a video of it working. It was taken in my garage. The “rock” is laying on the slide. As soon as it is launched, you can see it land if you look real hard.

http://vid1369.photobucket.com/albums/ag226/modelcrazy12/20150418_180248_zpsbgjxvl2b.mp

Both kits are supplied with metal barrels[Y]

I builds them as I sees them cool or not. “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”[;)]

That punkin chunker is what’s cool.[t$t]

Thanks

Tony lee

i do like displaying the big guns in travels mode. quick narrow base so i can display them in front of my books on the book shelves.

Thanks Tony.

It went together in about 2 1/2 hours. I thought it was a really neet subject, and my grandsons can learn something from it as well.

Steve

that catapult thingie is cool and different. hope to finish up exhaust system for generator for K-5 on sunday and get more work done on the breech and elevation mechanism. broke part of a coupler but no one will notice. (NOW EVERYONE WILL NOTICE), 6 axle trucks are at that just a little bit to tweak stage.at least until i decide to over spray a lighter yellow and mask for red brown and green camo.

didn’t feel like working on it tonight so i grabbed an old KV-2 i used for a pin wash demo and made some mud for the suspension (Liquidtex, water, acrylic paint, sawdust and coffee grounds) then went crazy pin washing and dot filtering the rest of it.(first time i have tried dot filters) will fit in special 50 SHADES OF GREEN at regional. maybe a vignette with it off the road with a thrown track and a German panzer or soldier going by.

may get a wild hair and pull out an M-102 and bash it out for this and USMC GB and June regional

Wayne,

That K5 is going to be an awesome build and an M-102 would make a nice addition to the front page. Were you still thinking of possibly building the Atomic Cannon?

GT,

I got the front page updated.
