ARMOUR EXTRA DETAILS - Punch and Die Set

I received the ROUND set for Christmas. The reason I am posting this question is two fold.

  1. I had never heard of this company before. Anyone else heard of ARMOUR EXTRA DETAILS?

  2. I wondered how this company’s set compares to WALDRON’s or HISTOREX’s sets? The quality is quite good. The construction is very good. The round pieces that I have punched so far require little cleanup or re-strikes.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated as always.

Cheers;

Gregory

I’ve never heard of them, but I wouldn’t mind getting a set for a gift. Most of the guys in our club use the Waldron set. I haven’t seen a Historex set in eons.

Do they have a web site? It would be interesting to look at their product line. Semper Fi, mike

Mike, look up Grobet, or Contenti. They have jewlers punches that are made for metal. They will last ferever with plastic.

Grobet is much more expensive than Contenti, but not neccessarily better. I have some doming sets, hammers, and chasing tools from Contenti and they are great.

Thanks for the feedback Hatewall. I’ve noted the names. Semper Fi, mike

yw18mc Mike;

Further to my posting here .

For Christmas this year my wife (Bless her little heart) bought me the Round Punch and Die set from ARMOUR EXTRA DETAILS. It’s made in Italy by SINTEC. If you look up www.steelmodels.com you can see both of the punch sets they offer a Round and Hexagonal. I noticed that these are suspiciously close almost “copied directly” from the Historex sets for both design and size of pubches.

Once you decide which one you want and you want to buy it cheap go to either the Hobby Shop directory in a copy of FSM or look on line for NORTHSTAR Hobbies in Mississauga, Ontario, CANADA. This was the shop my wife bought my set at. Price in Canadian dollars $114.00 and best of all they offer mail order service too.

I hope this helps you get a new tool on your workbench.

Cheers;

Gregory
