Completion Date - March 15 (gives them slow pokes plenty of time)
Acceptable kits - Any variant of the Sherman including M10, M36,
M36 B1, M35, M32, Achilles … the list goes on … if unsure … ask.
The object will be to get as many different variants of the Sherman Family built. Let’s see how we do.
I will be building a Sherman Ic Firefly from Dragon. This kit has been O.O.P. for some time but I managed to lay hands on one a couple of months ago. This is the composite hull Sherman and I will be using the Jordi Rubio barrel on this build.
I’m gonna first look into my Sherman bible before deciding on what I’ll be doing… Really like the Calliope but the Esci kit is very rare and Italeri hasn’t re-issued it yet, as far as I know…
I’ll probably go with either the Dragon Firefly Vc (2nd or 3rd run kit), or the Italeri US Marines M4 Sherman. I’ll decide after I get further into my Panther build.
BTW: greatmodels has the AFV M-10 Achilles on sale right now for about $20.
Well folks, I was walking through Hobby Lobby and a poor, lost little puppy of the M4A3 105mm breed attached itself to me and followed me home! [:D]
I believe this is one of Tamiya’s newer (read accurate) kits? I want to build my Sherman with added detail (indy tracks?) but I will need to take a break from the massive accurizing effort from the Panther.
Got to love it when a Sherman follows you home Derek. Yes indeed that is one of the newer Tamiya Shermans and those rubber band tracks that come with it are probably the best I have ever seen.
I’m not sure about accuracy, but the tamiya 105mm m4 is half new half old. The turret is new tool, which makes me wonder why the bottom part of my turret didnt fit perfectly. I had to sand down some of it. Half of the tank crew figures are new, the old halves can go in your spares pile. The non tank crew figures are new. The entire lower hull and everything attached is from an older sherman. I think the lower hull stuff came from the m4 early made by tamiya. The road wheels dont have details on the insides. I haven’t finished it yet, but i think theres a huge hole at the back of the tank. Its on the underside though. Seems like a good kit though since it includes so many extras i can probably put some in my 2.5ton truck. Most of the bad things cant be seen unless you flip the tank over. I guess i cant complain since i got it at a hobby lobby half off sale.
I have modelkasten tracks for my Sherman. My question is Indy tracks any better than modelkasten? I opened the box of modelkasten tracks and there are a lot of small parts and this has me a little worried.
