Armed Escort Tiltrotor

How bad could it be you ask? My dog runs away from it and hides in her crate.

Yeah, that’s ugly alright! But I like the look, too. Mean and nasty, just what an escort should be. Are you going to graft the V-22 tail onto this or use the Bronco’s?

The tail hasn’t changed since the first pix of the mock-up. It’ll still be the 1/72 V-22 tail structure with the fins canted outward. I just wasn’t able to find the V-22 box(which includes the nacelles) when I put together the mock-up for those recent pix.

I know I can use the inner-most station on the stub wings, and this is where I’ll place Hellfire. I may have to chop off the tips of the stubs - it depends on the diameter of the rotor disc - and mount Stingers or Sidewinders. Otherwise, they’ll go under the stub wing. But, I’ll still have a station under each wing for rocket or cannon and I plan on a gun turrent underneath. I just have to work out the placement in relation to the nose gear.

With you moving and all, Trigger, I hope to get my kits delivered so I can start on my version and maybe get a little caught up with you.

I’m hoping to get some interior paint shot on my AV-22 this weekend as well.

Caught up? ROTFLMAO!!! My friend, you’ve no idea how far behind I am! Last I looked, your A-10W was complete and my A-10M hasn’t even started yet! If only my schedule and building skills were as permissive and as fast as my imagination…

I know what you mean about scheduling and all, this week has been a blur, (I think the two days with four hours of sleep while we changed computer networks had something to do with it), but I’ve got some free time this weekend. I hope to get some more work in on my current project.

I just “forced” GreatModels to ship what they have of my order and I re-ordered the Mohawk from Squadron, it’ll be interesting to see which gets delivered first. Then I can really get going on my escort!

My money’s on Squadron. Great Models’ fulfilment dept ain’t exactly the Pony Express. My Hasegawa F-4J got here in decent time, but I think that was the exception to the rule. I ordered my Revell F/A-18E about a week beforehand, and they arrived within a couple of days of each other.

One time I forgot I had an order with them, so when I came home and saw a box on my door step, it was like Christmas morning until I saw what it was.

Well, I’m off to go move… [yuck] If anyone’s got any ideas what I can call the new place, shoot me an e-mail and y’all have a good weekend!

I’ll have to agree Trigger, that’s plenty ugly. But it should look pretty mean once you get it together.

I think I have finally finished the fuselage mods to the Citation. Lots of putty and filler, but at least it doesn’t look much like a Citation anymore. I nearly filled the nose with epoxy putty and sanded it to shape to fit the gun turret and leave a shelf for the FLIR. Since Screaminhelo volunteered to be the guy in back, I put some gunners windows in the back (one of which will eventually be a door) and added some chaff/flare dispensers. Here’s what it looks like so far:

I bought a Cobra Company MH-60 set to get some seats, an instrument panel, sensors, etc so the cockpits is next.

Phil

Looks good, keep posting and watching your progress
PS I’d ride in the back also

Looking real sweet, Phil. Good progress! You did a great job on the nose, too. Keep the updates rolling in.

I made some more progress this weekend. I painted the interior and cockpit and got it mostly put together. I like black cockpits, with careful drybrushing they look great closeup. But they are really hard to photogragh. I still need to finish the instrument panel.

Phil

PS, thanks grandadjohn, you’re hired!

I disappear for the weekend and end up missing out on all the good seats! Well, at least I’ll have a good view from the tub of mine…

Wow Phil, that looks great! That doesn’t look anything like a Citation anymore. Ilike the direction the nose is taking. What kind of gun will you use for the nose turret?

Thanks Phil, keeps looking better every post

Thanks. Trigger, I have a turret from a Commanche that I plan to use. I modified it some to look not so much like a Commache turret, but it’s still pretty clear where it came from. I think it looks pretty good though.

Phil

I too was planning on using a scrap Comanche turret - until I misplaced it. I don’t think this move’s going to help me get it back any sooner either. So I’m going to use an Apache’s gun unstead. “Off the shelf, proven” technology is my justification…

Good news LJ…
At best I’m a few weeks away from having the factory up and running again so you’ve got plenty of time to get “caught up.” [;)]

Good news for me, but I want to see your design get done, too! I’m still waiting on delivery of my donor kits…I got the stink-eye from Lady LemonJello for buying these on the sly, but she doesn’t hold too much of a grudge. I hope to get started on this soon, but I don’t want to ignore my AV-22, either.

Grant, thought of using the 20mm from a snake for your turret. lower profile then the Apache gun unless you were going to modify it

Yeah, the profile is a problem. I’m kitbashing a couple of Snakes into a U.S. Army RAH-1A and I may get a donor gun from there.

LJ
Oh, it’ll get done. Just not as soon as I had hoped. [V] I’ve got a LOT of stuff to unpack and a run or two to Targét and Ikea to make before I can start on the workshop. Of course knowing Great Models’ shipping, that timing make just work out perfectly.

LJ
Have your donors arrived yet? If so, how 'bout breaking out the masking tape and giving us a peak. I’m anxious to see if your Mohawk hybrid is as ugly as my Bronco!

(Let’s face it folks, neither the Mohawk nor the Bronco were the most visually attractive designs to begin with.)

No joy on the kits yet, GreatModels shipped, due in around the 6th. Not a peep from Squadron yet, but I’m hoping it’ll show up on the doorstep soon.

Once I get them, I’ll be sure to get some photos posted of the monster. It’ll be great!
