Armageddon X-71 space shuttle

Hello everyone, Its been a while since I have been on here. I have finished my latest model the space shuttle from the movie Armageddon, I have always liked space shuttles an as soon as I saw this one I wanted to make one. It turned out alright, as you can see I’m not the best at models. This is the “freedom” shuttle, I am thinking about doing the other shuttle “independence” form the movie as well, which looks the same, except it has all red boosters and a lighting bolt instead of the eagle. I would also like to take more time on the indepence and put diffent shade panels on it. Anyways feel free to comment.

Thanks,

Matey

Looks cool man nice weathering! If i could find it i would like to build one of the drill tractors when they are on the asteroid.

Pretty cool!

I didn’t even know they made a kit of that.

Seems to me they have a Sci-fi section for stuff like this.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Seems to me this isn’t all sci fi… The x-71 was a real project by the airforce, they wanted to build There own space shuttle that they could launch In emergency situations, but eventually they decided they really didn’t need it and closed the project.

Very nice! Is this a kit or did you scratch build it? Great work though.

And it is an aircraft so I think it’s fine here.

Of course, it’s fine here. No doubt about it; post on brother![:D]

I’ve got Miller’s updated book on the X-planes. You will not find an X-71 in there tested by the air force (or anyone else for that matter). You may be thinking of the SR-71 which was the follow-on to the A-12 but the X-71 is from the movie Argameddon is nothing BUT Sci-Fi. And marginal Sci-Fi at best. There is a reason why the sci-fi section has such low distribution compared to aircraft and I for one (even though an avid sci-fi enthuiast) would prefer for the sci-fi stuff to stay where it belongs.

Hey, I bet you’re a lot of fun at a party, right? [;)]

Just hoorawing ya a lil’ bit…lighten up Francis!

Gary

I’m just doing the same thing. Making waves for the heck of it. No issue at this end other than it seemed a little incongruous in this area of the forum.

First off you can stick to your book, I really don’t care what you have to say especially now, considering the x-71 never made it to testing because it never made its way off paper, they closed the project so early it didn’t have to be documented in a “book” Secondly- please cry some more about me posting it in the aircraft section. Dose it have wings? dose it have an aerodynamic body? hmmm what might I call this? an aircraft perhaps? so it has an extra set of wings, I guess I should throw it in the si fi section. Let me post it in the right place just to make you happy, because your are the only person here and the only person who matters, furthermore this is a forum where you share things and get feed back, I am slightly new and just wanted to share my build, but you had to throw a tantrum and get mad because you now have to scroll past my post and its more than you wanted to scroll. I’m not sure why this is such a big deal to you considering its only bothering you and no one else. I would prefer for the pessimist to stay where it belongs off my post.

Have a great day

thanks! yeah its a kit by revell

Interesting build. I like the color and thnk the shuttle would have looked cool in that scheme!

Two small points that might help or not…take them or leave them.

  1. When your taking pics treally light that sucker up so we can see it!

  2. Looks like the decales silverd a bit on you…really common. give that beast a good gloss coat before and after setting them and the silvering will vanish.

thanks for posting the pictures!

Thanks for your comment and your tips, I really appreciate any tips. I know I’m not the best at these things but I certainly would like to improve, I really enjoy making theses things. The decals did silver a bit, I didn’t know you were suppose to clear before I thought it was only after, I did put a dull coat on it after I applied decals but that’s about it. Here are some better pics…

Nice build Matey [Y]

Herchmech referring to the step before to put on decals, i avoid this step for long time with wromg results, just place a layer of clear gloss coat before decals apply .

About the correct section theres also the space section in the forum LOL

Well, I guess she does have wings and she does glide though the atmosphere to land so she is sorta an aircraft [;)] Still yeah since she’s not a ‘real’ craft she’d fit better in the SF section.

Nice model, don’t think I’ve ever seen one built until yours. Good job on painting all the different colours. Sucks that the decals silvered after everything else came out so well. As the guys said a coat or two of gloss and some decal setting solution most of the time takes care of the problem.

This thing is way cool.It would have been perfect for the Hollywood Group Build.
