The reason I ask is that I want to create some model planes for a model train set which is H0 scale. I feel there might be too big a difference for 1:72 planes and 1:87. It would be nice to know if there is a model company that makes 1:87 model planes.
Depends on what you are looking for Walters trains carried a DC3 and a P-51 in HO scale a few years ago you still might still find then out there. and if I remember Herpa carried a few same company. You may want to post this on Trains .com
They do a few aircraft, including a C-47 and a FW.190, and a larger range of helos, including a Bo.105, EC-135, AH-64 and CH-53. They also do a range of vehicles which could be used on airfields and airports.
Generally, though, you might like to consider using 1/100 aircraft. Tamiya, Revell Germany and others produce a fair range in this scale, and 1/100 is closer to 1/87 than 1/72. If you put them in the background of your display, ‘scale effect’ might work well.
There isn’t much out there in HO scale. Walthers builds the P-51 Mustang and the C-47/DC-3. There¿s a Ju-52 by Herpa. Busch has a hangar that looks very cool. You can browse the following manufacturers of HO vehicules: Busch, Vollmer, Herpa, Kibri and Ricko.
