are there any ways to home make static grass for dios?
the woodland scenics ones are pretty expensive and I’m too cheap to buy em.
I would like the ways to make them in 1/72?[?]
actually, if you want 1/72, woodland scenics tall grass will be perfect. It only cost $3.75 a pack, and in 1/72 you’ll have more than you know what to do with.
you can also use a paint brush. Cutt off the bristles and then paint them.
You’ll need to get lots of paint brushes though [:)]
I suggest you go for the woodland scenics one. Just my 2cents worth
Cheers,
[:D]
There is a way!
You must find a piece of nylon rope!
This rope is actually made, from many tiny fibres.
So with tha help of a scissor, you cut at about any length you want.
Just think, how tall you want the grass be.
With this method you can made as many as you want and at any length.
Here what you can do at 1/72 scale

sorry, I didnt see static grass. Verlinden makes some not sure on their price. Just go with the woodland scenics. $10 dollars for a can you will have half your modeling carrer.
what about regular grass stuff? can you make those?
thanks guys for the suggestions.
mmaker, where would I find this nylon rope?
I not sure if he used this but just normal rope would work, it is like he said made out of nylon. It can be found at Walmart.
Given that you’re working in 1/72 scale, you’d be looking at a max if two foot tall grass, that’s about 1/3 of an inch. Most grasses aren’t going to get that tall so you’re really looking at the visual approximation of grass. making your own at this size will be al ot of work when there are cheap alternatives in realistic colors readily available.
Home grown grass? well, you glass wool, lamps, temprature controle etc.
And ofcourse: good quality seeds.
But isn’t that illegal in the USA? [8-][:D]
I don’t know if I’ve just been looking at the wrong places, but most of the woodland sceenics stuff at my LHS is definitely not anywhere NEAR the prices you guys quote.
What I’ve been doing for some time now is dying sawdust. It takes two-three colouring sessions. I just soak the stuff in water, then mix in food colouring and cheap tempera acrylic paint. I spread the mixture and leave it for the water to evaporate. It’s worked fairly well so far.
I used a nylon rope from an old box.
I’ve seen other type with some kind of flat fibres.Dont use this…
zokissima beat me with the sawdust idea. Model railroaders have been using this technique for years.
I, personally, will stick with the Woodland Scenics or some of the cheaper knock offs available at the Model Railroad shops.
thanks again, but I just picked up a ,medium sized assorted turf bag for around7 bucks and I have it in an empty 5oz. sesame seed shacker and there are still 3/4 of the turf in the bag!
Get a ball of jute twine that gardeners use for staking plants. Cut a short piece and unravel it. Then snip off the end in as short or long pieces as you need and stop the snipping when you get a pile large enough to sprinkle on your dio. Dye the short pieces of the twine in the colors you need BEFORE you start the snipping phase.
