Are there any F-16 kits with tinted canopies?

I have been looking through online reviews of F-16s and they rarely mention if the canopy comes tinted or not.

I’m still awful with my airbrush and I really don’t think I’m ready to tackle a good looking transparent paint job.

I’m planning on doing my fist camo paint job by making a model of my fighter from an old computer game, Strike Commander. I figure no one would mind if the paint job itself is a bit inaccurate, since hardly anyone remembers Strike Commander.

I don’t care what version of the F-16 the kit depicts, as long as it is a single-seater.

A pilot figure is a must (I’ve got to be able to depict my alter-ego! [:D]).

Also, engraved panel lines would be nice, and so would weapons like Sidewinders, AMRAAMs, Mavericks, iron bombs, Durandals, rocket pods, etc. but these aren’t really necessary (I did always try to keep my bomb load at light as possible! [:p])

Any scale is good but 1/72 would be preferred, if not only for simplicity of the build, but also because I don’t have as much of an emergency styrene fund as a lot of the folks here. [:p]

Sorry for the long post, guys. Here’s the quick and dirty list of requests.

Absolute MUSTS

  • Tinted Canopy

  • Pilot Figure

Gravy

  • Engraved Panel Lines

  • Underwing Stores

  • Reasonably small scale

  • Not particularly expensive

Thanks!

^I thought the Tamiya 1:32 kit came with a smoked canopy?

I can help you with the tinted canopy thing at least. Mix some future with clear yellow paint until you get the color you’re looking for and then dip the canopy in the future as you normally would. Hope this helps.

yes, fujimi 1/72 scale f-16’s come with tinted canopy and also tamiya 1/48 scale (prototype)

I was told by some of the F-16 modelers that hasegawa’s f-16s usually come with one smoked and one clear canopy…they also come with figures in many cases as well…You’ll have to find some model previews where the reviewer shows you the parts sprues or ask someone who is selling one in a place like ebay…

Tinting the canopy isn’t that difficult with a bit of future and food coloring…

Good luck,
Doug

The Revell Germany 1/72 F-16 seems to match your criteria pretty well. There’s a review available from this very site:

http://www.finescale.com/fsm/default.aspx?c=a&id=127&mid=3408&auth=76ff93dbcfd74323bf21d2e19f3e48d569f741950f95ac7abf9e72447e4316e6

It has the pilot figure, the tinted canopy, and fits your other criteria too.

This kit is high on my “to-buy once my stash is smaller” list. [:)]

Regards,

Definitely the 1/48 scale Hasegawa F-16’s they have pilot figures and the tinted canopies the 3 F-16 kits I have are all 1/48 scale and Hasegawa

Matthew, great idea about the tinted future, thanks.
