I see many good IMC 1/25 car kits on eBay (ex: Ford GT-40) but am concerned the quality of these older kits is rough. Anyone out there have experience building one or more? If so, any comments appreciated. Thanks! Pat
I’m not much of an automotive builder but I think IMC kits were pretty good back in their day and were gradually incorporated by other companies like Lindberg, AMT, MPC, and even Testors.(Little Red Wagon, VW drag car, & the 1948 Ford convertible) At least if it’s an IMC kit then the molds were probably in good shape yet.
Welcome back to the forum, it’s been a little while.
I think I may have a couple IMC kits in the stash.
Pretty sure I built the trailer decades ago, if I remember it was reasonable but it’s just a flat deck so not much detail.
Give me a day or so to dig through the pile, find the car, I’ll pop the top, take a look and I can give you my thoughts.
Sorry it took a bit, the Chaparral that I have is a Bandai 1/20, not an IMC, so I can’t give an opinion on quality. I do have parts of the trailer still hanging around though. It is IMC and unless it was the best modelling work I’ve ever done (doubtful at that time), the molding looks pretty sharp and what mold lines there were, are pretty minor
Depending on the specific subject and scale you want to build, there are more current kits of many IMC products available from other manufacturers.
Hope this helps at least a bit.
Hello Frozin, thanks for your follow up! I’ll try an IMC kit one of these days. I appreciate your time and insights.
Like so so many model companies IMC have their good kits and their bad. Most of IMC are very old molds from other companies so research into the exact kit you are considering is important.
