Hello! I started to build the HiPM kit of the Ar 196 and realized there are no paint guides for the interior. Can anyone tell me what color the cockpit was or point me to a web site that has that info? The parts for this kit are really thick and have a ton of flash around them…is this normal for a HiPM kit or did I get a lemon? Seems like it may be quite an adventure! I went ahead and painted the interior Tamiya XF-63, German Grey, might be too dark, I don`t know…any help would be appreciated!..Len
The cockpit interior colour would be RLM66, and other interior areas (i.e: engine cowling) would be RLM02. As it was a Kriegsmarine aircraft, its upper colours would be RLM72 and RLM73, with RLM65 underneath.
And yes, the thick parts and tons of flash are normal for HiPM kits, a legacy from these old “Eastern Bloc” companies.
Thanks for that info! Ive looked for that particular color before and seems to be a hard one to find, in Southern New Jersey anyway. Don
t know if Pollyscale discontinued it or what but the RLM nos. in the hobby shops down here skip right on by!! Is Tamiya XF-63 close?
Tamiya XF-63 is pretty close. If you use Model Master Acryl, they have the complete range of colours. If you’re using strictly Tamiya colours, these are the formulas you’ll need:
RLM72 - 80% XF-27 and 20% XF-18
RLM73 - 80% XF-61 and 20% XF-18
I have lots of M.M. enamel but never tried the Acryl. Thanks for the Tamiya recipes they will come in handy tonight! Jagdwolf…you`re the best!..Len
