i jusat bought the dragon kingtiger porsche turrent, premium edition, and i am so excited about starting it. i will need to make zimmerit, but don’t really know how. how can i do i. i think i just need to apply either milliput or squadron putty, then make the marks with a flat head screwdriver. but could someone give me a detailed explanation on how to accuratly apply and make zimmerit? tis is my first time, and i rather not mess up on such a beautiful kit. thanks in advance guys.
I think if you’re really a newbie on zimmerit, I’d opt for an aftermarket zimmerit sheet like Cavalier or the like; especially on an expensive premium-edition model like that. Also, that damn turret-bulge on the 911tiger is a pain to putty around, so you might be better to practice your zimmerit on an old StuG or PZIV before geting in over your head on that premium beast…most newbies make their zimmerit too thick/heavy, so you might want to put that baby aside until you get your technique and proportions down. Gut luck!
“Battle Hobbies” out of Mineola, New York (Long Island) used to carry alot of Cavalier and ATAK, as well as my personal favorite, “The Show Modelling” zimmerit. This is like an impregnated paper type zimm sheet which is super-bendable and goes on easily with regular plastic glue. Pick up a kit of this type for one of your kits if you get the chance; its worth checking out! I think you can find them in the back of FSM, I don’t think they have a website![sigh] I don’t have their number on hand; I’ll try to find it and post it here in a day or two…
Scroll to the bottom for the Tamiya tools. There’s one that’s twice as big as the one used on that front plate of the Tiger Jeff used in the article. You’ll be fine.
