Apoxie Sculpt vs. Milliput Wars

I’ve used various 2-part epoxy putties for seam-filling, sculpting, molding, and other mischievousness for more than 50 years. However I was only recently exposed to Apoxie Sculpt made by Aves Studio, or more accurately, the controversy between Apoxie Sculpt and Milliput. One group claims that Apoxie Sculpt is stronger than Milliput and smooths with a wet finger. The other crowd claims that Milliput holds detail better. Compounding the situation, a splinter clique says Fixit® Sculpt (also by Aves Studio) is better than either of them.

Okay, this forum seems to breathes and eats controversy (especially one that has personal opinion as a major component), what 2-part epoxy putty is best?

Pick one and become proficient in using it.

I’m partial to Milliput but thats because I’ve used it for years. 95% of the time I can pinch/cut off the exact amount I need so there is no waste. I’ve tried the others but always go back to Milliput because I know how to work with it.

As I said, mitsdude: I’ve used various 2-part epoxy putties for … more than 50 years. Proficiency isn’t the issue. I was trying to get feedback from others, shed light on the controversy, etc., but except for your reply, the forum members rolled over their sleep.

I voted with my credit card and bought 3lbs. from Aves Studio to see if Fixit® Sculpt is really as good as it is claimed.

3 pounds, wow. That would be good for another 50 years for me Tom.

I have only used Milliput so I cannot give you a comparison. I’m happy with Milliput…

FWIW, the guys over at Starship Modeler have pretty much turned Aves Apoxie Sculpt into a religion. They rave over that stuff like a Jim Jones Kool-aid party. Hope you have good luck with it. I always want to pick some up but it’s either order online or drive to Denver for some, and I just haven’t had the cash yet.

I use Apoxie Sculpt alot. I bought the 8oz container about 4 years ago and I’d say I’ve used maybe a fourth of it. Its easy to work with and dries very strong. Plus, its good for scratch building.

I’ve used both and much prefer Apoxie Sculpt. Easier to work and sands very well. I hardly ever use Milliput any longer.

I know this is an older thread, but my main interest is in using one of these products for modeling zimmerit on WWII German armor. Anyone have any specific thoughts in that regard?

I used apoxie sculpt in my first attempt at a zimmerit years ago. The model is at my parents house so I don’t have any photos. I was happy with how it came out. I think I had about a 1.5 hour work time with it to get the zimmerit right. It also kind of had that concrete look to it.
