[#welcome] to the forums, Willjanuary! I’ve never built a F-106 (yet![:p]) but I do know that FSM had a great article on one ( including painting & decalling) maybe a year or so ago[%-)] A check of the FSM archives in this site should turn it up![:D] Good luck & Happy Modelling![8D] - Calvin

Update: Actually, it was more than a few years ago![:0] It was November 2001 issue and here’s what it looks like:

[#welcome] to the Forums. never built one before but this is a website just for the F-106. http://www.f-106deltadart.com/index1.htm . should give you lots of info and ideas.

[#welcome] to the forum. Do a google search on F-106 and you will get a LOT of replies. Search through some of them and they will show photos of the various USAF squadrons that flew the six-pack. Check out Squadron.com or greatmodels.com or meteorprod.com and several other sites for decals for the 106. There are a lot of them for both 1/72 and 1/48 scale.

thanks for the help

Welcome Will [:)]. I’m new to modelling too, but I think you’ll find a fine and helpful bunch of folks here.

Try the Eaglestrike decal site. You can view full color paint schemes. I find them at Areomaster.com. The F-106 from what I know pretty much was just a Glossy gray. I don’t recall the Federal Standard number right now. If I remember right some were painted for chase aircraft so they would have bright red on the wings and the tail. To my knowledge no F-106 was ever given a camo paint job.

Operatrional 106s were gloss grey overall with a black anti-glare panel and usually a gloss black radome. Certain areas were silver. Pat’s world of the F-106 web site has photos of several different squadrons.

The decal instruction sheet I have calls for the overall aircraft in Dark Gull Gray FS 16440 with the flat black anti glare panel and the glossy black nose. Many ANG units flew the F-106 and many had very colorful paint schemes. I am doing one for the Cold War Group Build in 318 FIS bicentennial colors. I have a couple of photos of F-106’s in the colors of the Montana ANG and the standard 318th.

Personally, I’d go for this FL ANG jet…

Actually, I’d really rather do a regular FL ANG 'Six, but since the Fourth was just a day or so ago
I was looking for an excuse to post some shots of this jet… [:P]

Fade to Black…

That ‘City of Jacksonville’ must be the holy grail of Sixes, at least it is to me [8D]. Only had one pic of her on the harddrive, so you know where those two went, Steve-O[;)]. While we’re talking Sixes, I’ve seen (in an ad in this month’s FSM) that Revell Germany has re-released the Revellogram 1/48 F-106 (and cheap too). If I ever see one in this part of the world, I’ll snap up a few while they’re there. I suggest everyone else does the same [^][:D].

The F-106 was painted in ADC gray FS 16473. Revell/Monogram has just released their old 1/48 scale F-106 again. It has raised panel lines but overall is a very nice kit. It comes with two types of canopies.

I built the kit many years ago and from what I can remember there were no major problems with it. I did mine in the test aircraft with the 20 MM cannon, which flew at Tyndall AFB. It also had the IFR system modification. It is ser # 90135.
